Steve Lindsey’s Background

Steve Lindsey

Could you tell me more about your background? Lindsey said:

“I’m a proud Utahn and graduate of Brigham Young University with a degree in Electronic Information Technology. My education, early employment roles, and connections fueled an exciting—and at times surprising—early career, which included launching my own company and co-inventing several patents for private startups.’

“My expertise touches on everything from electronic and network engineering to digital signal processing, enterprise cloud computing, wireless communications, and embedded systems development. That diverse mix of skills is exactly what has helped me solve the complex problems of building remote and rapidly deployable video security solutions as a founding partner at LVT. It’s rewarding to bring those threads together to make a real difference in life safety and physical security.”

Formation Of The Company

How did the idea for the company come together? Lindsey shared:

“The idea started small. Our CEO and co-founder, Ryan Porter, was working in construction financing when he thought, ‘Why can’t homeowners just watch a live feed of their home being built?’ When he realized that a product didn’t exist, he decided to build it.”

“It took off immediately, becoming a fixture on over 200 construction sites. The real turning point came when the Utah Department of Transportation reached out. They needed to monitor road conditions in remote areas with no power source or internet connection. This sparked LVT’s evolution.”

“I joined LVT as a founding partner in 2011 and am the main designer of the LVT technology platform as it is known today. I partnered with Ryan and the team to transform that basic camera feed into the software-driven, completely off-the-grid, mobile security powerhouse it is today. We saw the demand for remote outdoor video security solutions and created a solution that can be deployed anywhere in the world, without power or infrastructure.  It’s the easy button every business wishes it had when deploying sophisticated technology to get value quickly out of its investments.”

Favorite Memory

What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Lindsey reflected:

“There are so many great memories, we should probably write a book. Instead of a specific memory, I take great pride in where we’ve come. In the early days of the company, there were very few of us which meant we were a very tight-knit group of highly driven individuals that had each other’s backs. We were also a business that made the conscious decision not to take investment money and instead organically grew the company on razor-thin budgets at all times. This meant always driving together on many long-distance road trips, many shared hotel rooms, delayed paychecks, folding table desks, second-hand office equipment, and office space in garages and worn-down warehouses.”

“It took a lot of grit, patience, and resolve. The innovation was real and redefined what was thought to be possible. The impact we made disrupted entire industries. The impact we have had on our employees and our community will be felt for decades to come. The pride we take from that will live with us forever.  A legacy I will always cherish.”

Core Products

Live View

What are the company’s core products and features? Lindsey explained:

“We like to say that unlike traditional physical security solutions that only record evidence after a crime has happened, LVT is here to stop crime before it happens. Our whole goal is to deter crime and defend diverse environments.  After all, our mission is to make the world safer and more secure.”

“We are best known for our rapid-deployable mobile security units (MSUs), which are the customizable tall trailers equipped with solar panels, cameras, blue flashing strobe lights, floodlights, and a loudspeaker often found at your local big box stores. However, LVT’s rapid-deployability also enables our fixed systems mounted on buildings, poles, or other permanent structures to be installed without the need of traditional IT infrastructure. This significantly reduces installation time, costs, and bureaucratic friction, increasing time to value of what otherwise would be long drawn-out technology implementations.”

“The real magic of our technology is the Agentic AI behind them: our system is trained on volumes of human behavioral data to identify potential precursors to crime—things like abnormal crowd formation, unusual behavior or suspicious movement. This proactive Agentic AI lets us augment security and law enforcement, giving them 24/7 coverage and insights to effectively address situations and, ultimately, save lives and secure property. Because our systems can be mounted in many different ways, our solution provides full site coverage utilizing the same Agentic AI capabilities at enterprise scale.”

“Finally, an important note on privacy: LVT does not use facial recognition or persistent tracking of individuals, and we are fully CCPA compliant.”

Challenges Faced

Have you faced any challenges in your sector of work recently? Lindsey acknowledged:

“Absolutely. The most recent, and most exciting, challenge was developing our Agentic AI-powered “talk-down” feature, which we released in April 2025. This genuinely reinvents proactive crime deterrence.”

“The core challenge was building a video intelligence system that could quickly coordinate with a natural language processing system to issue clear, customized audio announcements. This wasn’t easy!”

“We invested hundreds of hours training the AI to ensure it could specifically describe an individual through details like their clothing, what they are doing, nearby objects, and location, not just their presence. Crucially, we designed the model from the ground up to exclude any reference to race or facial features, as those details are unnecessary for deterrence and create privacy concerns.”

“Clothing alone wasn’t enough (e.g., uniforms or concerts), so we expanded training to include contextual details like nearby objects and locations (e.g., ‘The person near the blue sedan’). This detailed object and location recognition allows the talk-down to be dynamic, non-repetitive, highly effective and highly specific, ensuring we maintain both proactive security and privacy integrity.”

“We also knew the AI talk-down had to sound real, like a human was talking live through the speaker. Any chance that it was robotic or computer sounding, and criminals wouldn’t believe it.  This included phrasing, intonation, repeating, tone, etc.  Tough challenge but our engineering team delivered beautifully on the final solution!”

Evolution Of The Company’s Technology

How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Lindsey noted:

“Our evolution has been about transforming basic, passive video recording into an essential, proactive security solution. In short, our system now does four major things; 1) detects prohibited behaviors pulling criminal red actors out of an environment of everyday good people going about their business, 2) proactively deters crime when it sees it, 3) escalates real-time alerts to humans when their involvement is required, and 4) enables rapid investigation with natural-language forensic search.”

“In short, we have turned the camera into a transformational tool capable of providing actionable intelligence that saves lives, secures property, and improves operational efficiency.  We’ve done this at enterprise scale and with a unique rapid-deployability that reduces time-to-value from 9-12 months down to days.”

Significant Milestones

What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Lindsey cited:

“LVT has had an incredible journey, and we’re proud to have launched several industry-changing innovations that have fundamentally redefined what’s possible in live streaming video and physical security.”

“A few milestones that really stand out are:

— Pioneering Cost-effective Rapid-Deployable Live Streaming Video: We developed the world’s first cloud-native, solar-powered, cellular-connected, enterprise scale live streaming video and archiving solution. This was a huge shift and even a disruptor—it made cost effective, reliable, secure live video streaming easy to deploy anywhere on the globe without needing power or hard-wired infrastructure or other complex software integration services. This innovation dramatically reduced the time and cost associated with global live video camera deployments, making what was once impossible now achievable.

— Creating a New Market: We didn’t just build a better product; we created the entire Mobile Security Unit (MSU) market. We were the first to deliver a full physical security solution that combines detection, deterrence, and situational awareness into a single, rapidly deployable unit, and we’ve since become the dominant leader in this space.

— Enabling Enterprise Scale: We focused on making deployment lightning-fast and fully turnkey. Our innovations dramatically reduced the time it takes for major enterprises to implement and operate a modernized physical security ecosystem across thousands of locations.

— Building Bulletproof Infrastructure: We developed the first-of-its-kind edge-to-cloud redundant private cellular/satellite infrastructure. This gives our customers the scale, high availability, and cyber security that massive organizations require but at a global mass-connected scale.

— Enterprise-Grade Agentic AI: LVT is the first to bring Agentic AI to the physical security market. Agentic AI brings a new dynamic ability to detect bad behaviors in context instead of just generally detecting objects like people or vehicles. This allows security professionals to detect bad actors in and amongst good actors; one of the most difficult challenges in the physical security technology space. In addition, LVT has introduced the world’s first AI talk-down capability which can call out specific traits and actions of bad actors in real-time increasing the deterrence effectiveness of LVT’s solution.  Lastly, LVT has made searching for evidence easier than ever by allowing security professionals to search for video evidence across their entire enterprise using a natural language interface.

Ultimately, the demand for these advanced solutions has proven the market need: LVT now has a multi-billion-dollar valuation.”

Customer Success Stories

When asking Lindsey about customer success stories, he highlighted:

“We’re incredibly proud of the trust we’ve earned—we now serve a large, diverse customer base, and that includes nearly every major brand in retail, specifically 94% of Fortune 100 retailers. Our technology is used across the board—from major companies like The Home Depot, Kroger, Walmart, and P&G to organizations like the New York Police Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

  • Retail: ‘One major retailer eliminated more than $1 million in monthly warehouse losses per location with our technology.’
  • Property: ‘Commercial property customers have reduced high-risk crimes by over 60%.’

Ultimately, these numbers show how our proactive deterrence features and real-time insights translate directly into massive cost savings and safer environments. The most rewarding part is the community impact—parents tell us they feel safe letting kids play outside again, which shows the real difference our technology makes.”

Funding

When asking Lindsey about the company’s funding, he revealed:

“I’m glad you asked about funding as we have a really interesting story.”

“LVT was bootstrapped for 16 years and developed a novel financial strategy to achieve early, sustainable positive cash flow without selling equity.”

“To overcome the high equipment cost, CEO and founder Ryan Porter leveraged state regulators’ classification of the technology as motor vehicles to secure favorable auto loans for each unit. He secured loans by showing banks the revenue potential of each unit, while also utilizing federal solar tax credits to fund manufacturing. Following this period of organic growth, LVT began raising institutional capital, accumulating a total of $117 million in venture capital since 2020.”

“While we don’t disclose our current total revenue, we have seen phenomenal growth over the past five years, achieving a 483% revenue increase from 2021 to 2024. This rapid expansion is driven by the fact that there is no limit to the environments LVT can protect, enabling rapid adoption across a myriad of industries, including retail, government, critical infrastructure, construction, and property management.”

Differentiation From The Competition

What differentiates the company from its competition? Lindsey affirmed:

“Our differentiation comes down to five core elements: Reliability, Cyber Security, Efficiency, Intelligence, and Scale.

“Reliability: Our patented low-power designs and private multi-carrier cellular infrastructure deliver an industry leading 97%+ uptime of edge systems while using far less cellular data than competitors, directly lowering operating costs and providing the most reliable solution in the industry.
