Lockheed Martin has been awarded a contract worth up to $105 million by the U.S. Space Force to continue modernizing and sustaining the Global Positioning System ground control network.

The contract builds on more than a decade of work under the Space Force’s Architecture Evolution Plan, through which Lockheed Martin has progressively enhanced the GPS ground segment. The effort supports resilient positioning, navigation, and timing services relied upon by billions of military and civilian users worldwide.

Under the agreement, Lockheed Martin will support launch, early orbit, and disposal operations for next-generation GPS IIIF satellites. The company will also enhance the resilience and capabilities of the broader GPS enterprise, ensuring continued reliability for mission-critical defense operations as well as everyday applications such as transportation, banking, and utilities.

The modernization effort is designed to strengthen the end-to-end GPS ecosystem, improving system performance and enabling more robust signal availability. In particular, the contract supports the deployment of additional M-Code-enabled GPS IIIF satellites, which are designed to provide enhanced anti-jamming capabilities for military users.

Lockheed Martin has also completed production of all GPS III satellites and is now focused on manufacturing GPS IIIF spacecraft at its Denver facility. These next-generation satellites are expected to deliver significantly improved performance, including substantially stronger anti-jam signals and greater accuracy compared to legacy systems.

The continued investment in GPS infrastructure reflects the growing importance of resilient space-based services for both national security and global commercial operations.
