Lowenstein Sandler has expanded its Investment Management & Private Funds Group with the additions of Brendan R. Kalb and Nachman “Nathan” Calko, bringing additional in-house asset management and private fund formation experience to the practice.

Kalb joins Lowenstein from ExodusPoint Capital Management, where he served as Global General Counsel.

He has more than 25 years of experience in the private funds industry, including senior in-house legal roles at major investment management organizations.

Before ExodusPoint, Kalb served as General Counsel at AQR Capital Management and previously practiced at leading law firms.

His practice includes advising investment advisers on their businesses and operations, including legal, regulatory and compliance matters.

Kalb also advises on the design, development and management of investment funds spanning a variety of structures and strategies.

His experience working directly inside sophisticated asset management organizations provides Lowenstein with additional capabilities advising fund managers on both legal strategy and the operational realities of managing regulated investment platforms.

Kalb is a former member of the Board of Directors of the National Futures Association and has served on the Founder’s Council of the Managed Funds Association.

He received his J.D. from Cornell Law School and earned a B.A. in International Relations and Economics, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.

Calko joins from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and brings nearly 10 years of private funds experience.

He represents sponsors in the formation, structuring and operation of private investment funds across strategies including private equity, credit, secondaries, continuation funds, infrastructure and real estate.

His practice also encompasses co-investment structures and separately managed accounts.

Calko received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where he received the Archibald R. Murray Public Service Award, and his B.T.L. from Ner Israel Rabbinical College.

Together, the two additions deepen Lowenstein’s ability to advise asset managers from both an institutional operating perspective and a fund structuring and formation perspective.

Lowenstein Sandler has more than 400 lawyers across New York, Palo Alto, Roseland, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Wilmington.

The firm has particular concentrations in investment funds, life sciences and technology.
