London Stock Exchange Group confirmed that it is in discussions with Permira regarding a potential acquisition of Octus for approximately $3.5 billion. The announcement followed recent press speculation surrounding the potential transaction. LSEG emphasized that no final agreement has been reached and that there is no certainty a deal will ultimately be completed.
Octus is a credit intelligence, data, and workflow provider serving buy-side firms, investment banks, law firms, and advisory firms. Its proprietary data covers the full credit lifecycle, giving customers information and tools designed to support analysis and decision-making across credit markets.
The company has developed a particularly strong position in illiquid and private credit, an area LSEG described as a high-growth segment of the market. That exposure could expand LSEG’s capabilities as private credit continues to become a more important part of institutional investing and capital markets activity.
Octus also operates a high-retention subscription model and has generated a track record of double-digit revenue growth. LSEG said the company’s coverage and workflow solutions would be highly complementary to its existing fixed income data and analytics capabilities as well as its private markets offerings.
A combination would further expand LSEG’s Data & Analytics business with additional specialized credit intelligence and workflow capabilities. The potential transaction would give LSEG a larger presence across private and less-liquid credit markets while adding a subscription-based platform used by financial institutions and professional services firms.
LSEG said the potential acquisition would be immediately accretive to the revenue growth of both its Data & Analytics division and the broader group, underscoring the strategic importance of Octus within its expanding data and analytics portfolio.
Any transaction would remain subject to regulatory approval. LSEG said it will provide additional information as appropriate as discussions progress.
