Lucid Group, Nuro, and Uber Technologies have formed a partnership to launch a premium robotaxi program exclusively on the Uber platform, set to debut in a major U.S. city in late 2026.
This new service combines Lucid Gravity’s advanced vehicle architecture, Nuro’s Level 4 autonomous driving system, and Uber’s extensive fleet management expertise, creating a robotaxi experience focused on comfort, safety, and scalability. Uber plans to deploy over 20,000 Lucid vehicles equipped with Nuro’s technology over a six-year period, with operations carried out by Uber and its partners. The initial Lucid-Nuro robotaxi prototype is currently operating autonomously at Nuro’s proving grounds in Las Vegas.
To strengthen their collaboration, Uber will invest hundreds of millions into Nuro and Lucid. The robotaxi will feature a long-range, efficient design and integrate Nuro’s autonomous technology, with both hardware and software seamlessly incorporated on the assembly line.
With operations in 70 countries and an average of 34 million trips daily, Uber’s platform provides the scale needed for widespread adoption of self-driving vehicles. The Lucid Gravity’s 450-mile range reduces charging downtime, while Nuro’s Level 4 autonomy ensures precision and adaptability.
Nuro will also develop a comprehensive safety case, utilizing simulations, closed-course tests, and supervised on-road testing to ensure the robotaxi operates safely.
KEY QUOTES:
“Autonomous vehicles have enormous potential to transform our cities for the better. We’re thrilled to partner with Nuro and Lucid on this new robotaxi program, purpose-built just for the Uber platform, to safely bring the magic of autonomous driving to more people across the world.”
Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber
“This investment from Uber further validates Lucid’s fully redundant zonal architecture and highly capable platform as ideal for autonomous vehicles, and our industry-leading range and spacious well-appointed interiors, as ideal for ridesharing. This is the start of our path to extend our innovation and technology leadership into this multi-trillion-dollar market.”
Marc Winterhoff, Interim CEO at Lucid
“We believe this partnership will demonstrate what’s possible when proven AV technology meets real-world scale. Nuro has spent nearly a decade building an AI-first autonomy system that’s safe, scalable, and vehicle-agnostic, proven through five years of driverless deployments across multiple U.S. cities and states. By combining our self-driving technology with Lucid’s advanced vehicle architecture and Uber’s global platform, we’re proud to enable a robotaxi service designed to reach millions of people around the world.”
Jiajun Zhu, Co-Founder and CEO at Nuro
