Lucid Group, Nuro and Uber announced at CES 2026 the production-intent vehicles they plan to deploy in a global robotaxi service, alongside an Uber-designed in-cabin rider experience that the companies said is being shown publicly for the first time.

The companies also said autonomous on-road testing started last month, marking a development milestone as the partners work toward an expected launch in the San Francisco Bay Area later in 2026. Nuro is leading the testing effort using robotaxi engineering prototypes supervised by autonomous vehicle operators, with initial testing beginning in the Bay Area.

The partnership combines Lucid’s electric vehicle platform, Nuro’s autonomous driving technology, and Uber’s ride-hailing network, with the companies positioning the service as a scalable model for real-world operations. Nuro described its approach as Level 4 autonomy and said the validation program is part of a safety framework refined through years of commercial autonomous deployments.

Nuro said the on-road testing program is designed to evaluate dozens of critical capabilities across the full autonomy stack, including an end-to-end AI foundation model that the company said blends modern AI techniques with verifiable safety logic aimed at delivering comfortable and reliable driving performance. The broader test regime also includes closed-course testing and simulation, intended to validate performance across a wide range of scenarios.

Pending final validation, the partners said the production-intent robotaxi is expected to begin production at Lucid’s Arizona factory later this year. The robotaxi and in-cabin experience are also being displayed for CES attendees at NVIDIA’s showcase at the Fontainebleau Hotel, running from Monday, January 5 at 3:00 p.m. PT through Thursday, January 8, 2026.

Lucid, a Silicon Valley-based EV maker, said it is leveraging its vehicle technology and architecture as a platform for autonomous mobility, highlighting range and interior comfort as differentiators for a robotaxi use case. Uber framed the initiative as an expansion of its autonomous mobility strategy, aiming to add a new ride option that it said would be affordable and scalable in the Bay Area and beyond.
