Luma Health has announced the acquisition of Tonic Health from R1, marking a significant expansion in its mission to simplify and automate patient care. Tonic Health is a leading provider of dynamic intake, electronic consent, and patient-reported outcome solutions. The move strengthens Luma’s capabilities in patient intake and follow-up, while reinforcing its commitment to health systems that use Oracle Health EHRs.

Luma’s AI-native platform already supports more than one-third of the U.S. population and serves patients across the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Caribbean. The acquisition expands Luma’s network to over 1,000 health systems, including more than 15 of the nation’s leading academic medical centers, collectively reaching more than 100 million patients.

This milestone follows a year of rapid growth for Luma, which was named one of Inc.’s 5,000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies for the second time and achieved record annual recurring revenue for the fifth consecutive year. The company also expanded internationally to Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Caribbean, and rolled out new AI-driven tools to enhance patient readiness and engagement.

Since its founding in 2010, Tonic Health has built a strong presence supporting healthcare organizations that rely on Oracle Health EHR systems. The combination of Luma and Tonic will drive innovation aimed at helping health systems reduce operational bottlenecks before and after patient visits.

The partnership arrives at a time when healthcare providers are facing growing pressure to improve efficiency amid staffing shortages and resource constraints. By merging their technologies and expertise, Luma and Tonic aim to reduce manual coordination tasks, allowing clinical and administrative teams to dedicate more time to patient care.

Luma will continue to invest in AI-native workflows designed to guide patients from scheduling through post-visit follow-up without the need for extensive manual input from staff. These advancements aim to enhance operational efficiency while maintaining a seamless patient experience.

Throughout 2026, Luma plans to host a series of executive sessions for customers using various electronic health record systems, where they can explore the latest innovations and success stories from peer health systems.
