LumApps: Interview With CEO Sébastien Ricard About AI Employee Hubs And The Digital Workplace

By Amit Chowdhry ● Yesterday at 10:06 PM

LumApps is an employee experience platform designed to bring workplace communication, knowledge, tools, and tasks together in a unified AI Employee Hub. The company supports both desk-based and frontline employees, with integrations across ecosystems including Google Workspace and Microsoft 365, and uses AI to help employees find information and take action more efficiently. Pulse 2.0 interviewed LumApps CEO Sébastien Ricard to learn more about the company’s evolution, its approach to reducing digital workplace fragmentation, and the role AI will play in creating more connected employee experiences.

Sébastien Ricard’s Background

When asked about his background, Ricard shared:

I’ve spent most of my career building technology companies focused on helping organizations work differently.

Early on, I co-founded gPartner, where we helped bring Google Enterprise solutions to the European market, when cloud technology was still new to many businesses.

That experience shaped how I think about technology, not as an end in itself, but as a way to simplify complexity for organizations and their people.

I later founded LumApps with that same mindset, focused on improving how employees connect, communicate, and get work done in increasingly digital environments.

How LumApps Started

When asked how the idea for LumApps came together, Ricard explained:

LumApps was born from a very real enterprise need: helping organizations bring clarity to an increasingly fragmented digital workplace.

We saw companies struggling to connect tools, information, and communication into one coherent experience.

Together with our CTO, Élie Mélois, we built LumApps as a product-led response to that challenge.

Since launching in 2015, the platform has continued to evolve through innovation and targeted acquisitions as workplace needs and expectations have changed.

Favorite Memory

When asked about his favorite memory working for LumApps, Ricard said:

One moment that stands out is when our long-term vision really came into focus.

Joining forces with Beekeeper brought desk-based and frontline employees together in one platform, something the industry has talked about for years but struggled to deliver in practice.

At the same time, being repeatedly recognized as a Leader in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ reinforced that we’re solving a real problem organizations face: too much fragmentation and not enough clarity about how work happens.

But what matters most to me is seeing the impact behind those milestones, hearing from organizations that their teams feel more connected, informed, and able to focus on the work that matters.

Core Products And Features

When asked about LumApps’ core products and features, Ricard explained:

Work today is fragmented.

Employees move between too many tools, systems, and sources of information just to get their work done, which creates friction, slows decision-making, and disconnects teams.

LumApps was built to solve that problem.

We bring communication, knowledge, tools, and tasks together in one AI Employee Hub designed around how people actually work.

Instead of adding another platform, LumApps organizes work in context.

Company updates sit alongside team conversations, operational tools connect directly to daily priorities, and both frontline and desk-based employees can access what they need in the flow of work.

AI plays an important role by helping employees find information faster and take action more easily.

The goal is simple: reduce complexity so teams stay aligned, move faster, and focus on meaningful work.

That’s where work comes together.

Addressing Digital Workplace Fragmentation

When asked about challenges in the sector and how LumApps addresses them, Ricard said:

One of the biggest challenges we see today is fragmentation.

Organizations have invested heavily in workplace technology, but employees, especially when deskless, still experience work as disconnected systems and scattered information.

For IT leaders, the challenge is managing growing tool sprawl while maintaining security, governance, and integration across the organization.

For internal communications leaders, it’s reaching every employee with clarity and knowing whether messages actually lead to action.

We address both challenges the same way: by bringing communication, tools, and workflows into one connected experience.

When work is organized around employees instead of systems, IT can simplify and govern the ecosystem more effectively, and comms leaders gain the visibility and reach they’ve been missing.

Ultimately, the goal is to close the gap between desk-based and frontline work so everyone operates with the same clarity.

How LumApps’ Technology Has Evolved

When asked how the company’s technology has evolved since launching, Ricard explained:

When we launched LumApps, the primary challenge was internal communication.

Today, the challenge is much broader. Organizations are trying to bring clarity to increasingly complex digital workplaces where employees work across multiple tools, environments, and roles.

Our technology has evolved in response to that shift.

Rather than adding features incrementally, we’ve taken a deliberate platform approach, using innovation and strategic acquisitions to expand how work comes together for employees.

Each step, from video and learning to automation and frontline connectivity, was about solving a larger industry problem: connecting people, knowledge, and action into a single experience.

Joining forces with Beekeeper was a natural extension of that strategy, allowing us to bridge the long-standing divide between desk-based and frontline workers and move toward a unified AI Employee Hub.

Today, AI is the next phase of that evolution.

We focus on making work more contextual and actionable, helping employees find what they need faster, reduce friction, and stay aligned with organizational priorities.

Our goal hasn’t changed: simplify complexity so organizations can operate with greater clarity at scale.

Key Company Milestones

When asked about LumApps’ most significant milestones, Ricard highlighted:

A few moments stand out because they changed how we think about the employee experience market.

First was recognizing that internal communication alone wasn’t enough.

Organizations needed a platform that connects communication, knowledge, and daily work, which shifted LumApps from an intranet product to a broader employee experience platform.

Another defining milestone was our decision to grow through targeted acquisitions.

Each step expanded our ability to support how employees actually work, from learning and automation to more contextual digital experiences.

More recently, joining forces with Beekeeper marked a major turning point.

It allowed us to bridge the long-standing divide between desk-based and frontline employees and move toward a single AI Employee Hub serving the entire workforce.

And being recognized multiple times as a Leader in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ has reinforced that this direction reflects where the industry itself is heading, toward more unified, intelligent workplace platforms.

Customer Success Story

When asked to share a specific customer success story, Ricard highlighted Finish Line:

One example that stands out is our work with Finish Line, a major U.S. retailer operating hundreds of stores nationwide.

They needed to quickly launch a new intranet to support their Google environment while improving collaboration between corporate teams and store employees.

In just three months, we helped deploy a single platform across more than 900 locations, giving employees one place to access communications, tools, and essential business applications.

By consolidating systems into a unified environment, Finish Line improved adoption and made it easier for employees to find what they needed without switching between disconnected tools.

For IT, this meant less complexity and stronger governance.

For employees, it created a more consistent experience across headquarters and stores, helping teams stay aligned and operate more efficiently day to day.

Stories like this reflect what we see across many customers: when communication and operational tools come together in one place, organizations get more value from their technology investments while making work easier for employees.

Competitive Differentiation

When asked what differentiates LumApps from its competition, Ricard explained:

Most workplace platforms were built around systems, communication tools, knowledge repositories, or productivity applications, and organizations have spent years trying to connect them after the fact.

We took a different approach by designing LumApps around the employee experience itself.

Our focus is on bringing communication, tools, and workflows together in one connected environment so employees don’t have to navigate fragmented systems to get work done.

That’s especially important for organizations trying to support both desk-based and frontline teams, who have traditionally been served by entirely separate technologies.

Our deep integrations with Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 are part of that philosophy.

Rather than replacing existing ecosystems, we unify them, giving IT leaders governance and control while giving employees a simpler, more consistent experience.

Ultimately, what differentiates LumApps is clarity.

We help organizations reduce complexity, connect their entire workforce, and turn communication into coordinated action across the business.

Future Goals

When asked about LumApps’ future goals, Ricard said:

Our focus is continuing to bring greater coherence to how work happens inside large organizations.

As digital environments grow more complex, leaders are looking for a more connected way to align communication, services, and day-to-day execution across the business.

We’re evolving LumApps into the central hub that supports that shift, connecting headquarters and frontline teams in one intelligent platform that helps employees move from being informed to taking action.

AI will play an increasingly important role by guiding employees in context and helping organizations reduce the friction created by disconnected systems.

Looking ahead, success for us means helping organizations operate with greater alignment and visibility, so every employee, regardless of role or location, can contribute with clarity.
