Lumeris has appointed Charles “Chuck” Saunders, M.D., as Chief Clinical Transformation Officer and President of Value-Based Care Enablement as the healthcare technology company expands its work with health systems and physicians transitioning to value-based care. Saunders will also help drive adoption of Tom, Lumeris’ AI-powered Primary Care as a Service platform.
In the new role, Saunders will lead the company’s Value-Based Care Enablement business, working with health systems and physicians to improve clinical and financial performance under value-based care models. He will also provide clinical leadership and oversight for the development and customer adoption of Tom as Lumeris integrates AI into primary-care operations.
The company said the appointment supports its strategy of combining value-based care expertise with advanced AI to help healthcare organizations address capacity constraints, administrative burden, and patient access. Lumeris is positioning Tom as a platform that can support more proactive and coordinated care while giving clinicians additional operational and analytical support.
Saunders brings more than three decades of experience across clinical medicine, healthcare technology, population health, and value-based care. Most recently, he served as CEO of Integra Connect, a technology and services company focused on value-based oncology care and precision medicine. Previously, he founded and served as CEO of Healthagen, Aetna’s population health management business, where he helped build a portfolio supporting more than 70 accountable care organizations.
Earlier in his career, Saunders served as chairman and CEO of Broadlane and chief medical officer of Healthscope/WellPoint. He earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Southern California.
