Luminance has appointed Don Riddick as Chief Legal Officer, placing the former Featurespace legal chief in charge of the company’s legal, governance, compliance, and risk functions.
Riddick will also advise Luminance’s board on material legal and risk matters and align the company’s legal strategy with its broader business objectives.
He joins Luminance from amotivv, where he served as Founding Principal and Chief of Strategy.
Earlier in his career, Riddick held positions at IBM, McKesson, and Total System Services before spending more than five years as Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary of Featurespace.
At Featurespace, Riddick led the legal function through the company’s acquisition by Visa in December 2024.
He also holds patents related to artificial intelligence and blockchain, with another patent pending involving AI compliance.
Riddick brings an unusual perspective to his new position because he was previously a Luminance customer.
While serving as CLO at Featurespace, he was directly involved in selecting and deploying Luminance’s Contract Intelligence platform.
His team used the software to analyze Featurespace’s legacy contractual commitments, giving executives faster visibility into historical obligations and legal risks.
According to Luminance, the platform replaced weeks of contract research with rapid answers for board and C-suite reporting.
The deployment extended beyond the legal department.
Featurespace’s Support and Engineering teams used Luminance to locate information including service levels, support commitments, and other contractual obligations across the company’s agreement portfolio.
That experience gives Riddick first-hand knowledge of how Luminance’s technology is used by corporate legal departments and other business functions.
Luminance is positioning Contract Intelligence as an enterprise-wide technology rather than software used exclusively by lawyers.
Its platform is designed to understand the language, history, and context contained across a company’s contracts, then use that information to identify risks, flag obligations, accelerate negotiations, and support actions across departments.
The company says the technology can be used across Legal, Finance, Procurement, Sales, and other business functions.
Riddick’s appointment also reflects the growing role of AI within corporate legal operations.
Legal departments can hold large volumes of contractual information covering commercial terms, obligations, service commitments, regulatory requirements, and historical risk positions.
Luminance is developing AI systems intended to make that information more accessible to employees while reducing routine research demands placed on lawyers.
For Riddick, the technology can also help incoming legal leaders understand contractual obligations inherited from previous management teams more quickly.
His responsibilities at Luminance will combine that customer perspective with oversight of the company’s own legal and governance infrastructure.
Riddick’s background spans payments, healthcare, fraud prevention, strategy, technology, and regulated businesses, giving him experience operating in areas where AI, data, and legal requirements increasingly intersect.
Luminance CEO Eleanor Lightbody said his experience across both legal leadership and broader commercial functions was an important factor in the appointment.
The company was originally developed out of the University of Cambridge and describes its platform as purpose-built by AI, legal, and technology specialists.
Luminance’s technology is intended to turn contractual information into an ongoing source of operational intelligence rather than treating contracts primarily as static legal documents.
