Lumivero Launches NVivo AI Cloud With AURA For Auditable Qualitative Research

Lumivero has launched NVivo AI Cloud, an AI-native qualitative data analysis platform powered by AURA, the company’s AI-powered Unified Research Assistant, designed to help researchers use generative AI while maintaining traceability, researcher oversight, and an auditable analytical record.

The Denver-based research software company said NVivo AI Cloud was built to address a central concern surrounding the adoption of AI in academic, government, healthcare, and commercial research: how to increase the speed and scale of analysis without weakening the ability to explain how findings were produced.

According to Lumivero, every action taken by AURA can be traced back to the underlying source data, including AI-generated coding suggestions and surfaced themes.

AI-generated recommendations are clearly identified and require researcher review and approval before becoming part of the analytical record, preserving human oversight throughout the research process.

The company said this approach distinguishes NVivo AI Cloud from general-purpose AI tools that may generate answers without providing researchers with a transparent chain of evidence.

Lumivero also said the platform is designed to reduce the risk of unsupported AI-generated analysis by keeping researchers directly involved in decisions about coding, themes, and interpretation.

The new platform builds on more than 30 years of NVivo qualitative research methodology.

NVivo has historically been used by researchers to organize, code, analyze, and interpret complex forms of unstructured data, including interviews, survey responses, documents, transcripts, and other qualitative research materials.

NVivo AI Cloud extends those capabilities by integrating AI agents directly into the qualitative research workflow.

AURA operates as a family of AI agents capable of helping establish research projects, identify important topics across multiple sources, follow established research methodologies, and create and maintain codebooks as new information is added.

A codebook provides researchers with a structured collection of codes used to categorize and interpret qualitative information.

By helping automate portions of that process, Lumivero believes researchers can evaluate more potential hypotheses and return to research questions that may previously have required too much manual analysis.

However, the company is emphasizing that automation does not replace the researcher’s role in determining what enters the final analytical record.

That distinction is particularly important in research environments where findings may need to withstand review from institutional review boards, grant providers, academic journals, clients, or other stakeholders.

Lumivero is positioning NVivo AI Cloud around the concept of defensible research, where investigators can demonstrate how an analytical conclusion connects back to the original material.

The company sees increasing demand for such capabilities as research teams face pressure to complete projects more quickly while also determining how generative AI can be incorporated responsibly.

NVivo AI Cloud is designed primarily for social science and market researchers, with particular emphasis on customers in academia, government, healthcare, and professional services.

The launch also moves Lumivero further into cloud-based generative AI-assisted research tools while maintaining its established focus on structured qualitative methodology.

The company expects researchers to use AURA not simply to summarize material, but to support broader analytical workflows in which AI-generated suggestions remain reviewable and attributable to specific evidence.

Lumivero said that model allows researchers to maintain control over interpretation while using AI to process larger volumes of information and identify potential relationships across datasets.

Individual researchers and students will be able to purchase NVivo AI Cloud beginning October 6, 2026.

Teams and institutional customers can join a waitlist for access expected in the new year.

Lumivero will also host Illuminate on October 6, a live launch event focused on NVivo AI Cloud and the future of AI-enabled qualitative research.

The platform expands Lumivero’s broader portfolio of research and decision software, which combines data analysis, AI-powered workflows, and established research methodologies.

The company serves organizations across academia, industrials, energy, financial services, life sciences, manufacturing, and other industries.

KEY QUOTES:

“Across thousands and thousands of researchers, NVivo has been trusted to drive real impact – from advancing healthcare treatments to understanding social issues. But we’ve constantly heard about the tension between the pressure to use AI to publish faster and the need to protect the accuracy and integrity of the research process. That’s why we built NVivo AI Cloud: AI that helps researchers see deeper patterns in their data and publish work they can stand behind — without ever trading rigor for efficiency.”

Gareth Morrison, Chief Executive Officer Of Lumivero

“I’m excited to see Lumivero enter the online GenAI-assisted qualitative analysis space with the release of NVivo AI Cloud. The platform harnesses the capabilities of LLMs in a clearly methods-driven way, offering a balance between automation and interpretation at each step of its pipeline.”
