Lüt is a modern payment processing and digital wallet platform that builds private payment rails to provide business continuity, secure transactions, and consumer loyalty rewards for merchants. Pulse 2.0 interviewed Lüt CITO Vasa Krishnan to learn more.
Vasa Krishnan’s Background
Could you tell me more about your background? Krishnan said:
I’m a technology and business leader in fintech and financial services, with over two decades of experience building the framework for secure, scalable and resilient finance ecosystems. Before joining Lüt, I spent my career creating the infrastructure behind Wall Street entities like Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Lehman Brothers, and IBM.
My work sits at the intersection of technology, compliance and team management — ensuring innovation happens responsibly and at scale. Today, as Chief Information and Technology Officer at Lüt, I lead global engineering, data and infrastructure teams while driving our technology vision and multi-cloud architecture strategy.
Formation Of The Company
How did the idea for the company come together? Krishnan shared:
Much of the founding team had worked together for years at major financial institutions and were looking for ways to innovate in their work. However, in traditional fintech, change is incredibly slow. Our team identified a major gap in high-risk industries like franchises, cannabis and iGaming. These operators were still heavily cash-based and underserved by traditional financial institutions, and we saw a void to fill. We started with a brainstorm session in a hotel suite, mapping out what a modern, resilient, compliance-first payment ecosystem could and should look like.
From that humble foundation, we built a first-of-its-kind, cloud-native payments architecture designed specifically for industries that require both flexibility and strict regulatory oversight.
Favorite Memory
What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Krishnan reflected:
The early days were special. It’s incredible to build something from the ground up with individuals you’ve respected for years. We were sketching ideas on flip charts, debating concepts and asking ourselves how we could truly redesign payment rails for high-risk industries. There was no roadmap yet, just a vision and the knowledge that we could execute on it.
Seeing that hotel room concept evolve into a patent pending multi-cloud server system with the first closed payment rails in decades has been incredibly rewarding.
Core Products
What are the company’s core products and features? Krishnan explained:
At a high level, Lüt delivers:
— Open-loop and closed-loop payment rails
— Secure digital wallets
— Cashback transaction incentives
— Merchant tools and reporting infrastructure
— Real-time payments capabilities
— Consumer and merchant rewards programs
— Strong compliance and risk management frameworks
Behind the scenes, we built the system with resiliency at its core. Outages in a single server would not interrupt Lüt’s services. Our architecture is designed for reliability, which businesses in high risk industries desperately need for their own operations.
Challenges Faced
Have you faced any challenges in your sector of work recently? Krishnan acknowledged:
One of the biggest challenges in high-risk sectors is economic pressure. In cannabis for example, the margins are very thin and there is reticence to change from systems that are half working to one that is designed for operational efficiency.
Our approach has been to be a real financial partner and bring Wall Street-level operational discipline and performance sensitivity into underserved industries. We focus on helping clients monetize more efficiently while maintaining strict compliance. By combining strong business acumen with modern infrastructure, we help industries transition from cash-heavy operations to secure digital ecosystems.
Evolution Of The Company’s Technology
How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Krishnan noted:
Fundamentally, our guiding principles have not changed: resiliency, reliability, compliance and partnerships are the core of our operations.
We invested heavily upfront in strong architecture, but we are always focusing on improvements. Lüt’s enhancements are incremental and focus on performance, the user experience and automation. However, the foundation remains consistent and strong.
Significant Milestones
What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Krishnan cited:
There’s been quite a few since our hotel brainstorm session. Successfully launching our proprietary payment rails, building a patent-pending multi-cloud server and achieving PCI DSS certification and SOC 2 compliance are some of the most significant milestones. You cannot build a system that serves so many industries without creating a strong infrastructure, and each step in our development process has demonstrated that commitment to the end user experience.
Differentiation From The Competition
What differentiates the company from its competition? Krishnan affirmed:
We combine strong technology, strong compliance and strong customer engagement — which is rare in this space. If a company is available, the tech is often outdated or vice versa. Too many fintech operators don’t understand the compliance components of high-risk industry support, but it is Lüt’s entire foundation. Our commitment to strong partnerships has made it mandatory for there to be a compliance-first, innovative tech infrastructure so that payments feel intuitive and easy.
Future Company Goals
What are some of the company’s future goals? Krishnan emphasized:
Creating solutions is our primary objective. We are focused on expanding adoption across franchises, cannabis, iGaming and other underserved verticals. Real-time payments are especially critical in industries like iGaming, where speed and liquidity directly impact user engagement.
Additional Thoughts
Any other topics you would like to discuss? Krishnan concluded:
We’re always evolving, and are currently investing heavily in AI-driven automation. Our goal is to deploy intelligent agents within our operational ecosystem to improve efficiency, reduce overhead and enhance real-time monitoring. However, we’re not interested in replacing human oversight. AI, for us, is about amplification and optimization, not elimination.
