Lyft, the global mobility platform, has agreed to acquire Gett’s United Kingdom business, with the deal expected to close in the coming weeks, subject to customary closing conditions. The acquisition will position Lyft as the leading app for London black cabs and will nearly double the number of rides on the Lyft platform across the capital.
Gett is one of London’s leading black cab apps, with three-quarters of Transport for London-registered black cab drivers on its network and strong enterprise business-to-business relationships spanning London’s largest corporations, historic venues, and major public sector organizations. The combined platform will bring the majority of Greater London’s registered black cab drivers onto Lyft, giving the company a comprehensive suite of ground transport options across the city, including black cabs, private hire vehicles, bikes, and executive chauffeur services. More than 50% of the black cabs registered with Gett are zero-emission capable.
The deal advances Lyft’s stated strategy of expanding “out” into more locations and “up” into more high-value segments. London is Europe’s largest taxi and ride-hail market, and Lyft already has a significant presence there through several assets. The company owns Freenow, a European taxi and multi-mobility app operating across nine markets and more than 180 cities, and has been renewed to provide the bikes and stations for Santander Cycles, including the software that powers the network. Later this year, Lyft will also begin testing autonomous rides in London in partnership with Baidu, making it one of the only platforms in the world offering both human-driven and autonomous rides in the city. Gett’s team will transfer to Freenow by Lyft once the acquisition is complete. The transaction will have no impact on Lyft’s first quarter 2026 results and is expected to have an immaterial impact on second quarter 2026 results.
