M1 announced M1 Advisor, a fiduciary AI financial advisor integrated into the company’s investing, cash, and borrowing platform. M1 Advisor is offered through M1 Advisory Services, an SEC-registered investment adviser.
The service uses a client’s M1 investment, cash, and borrowing accounts to provide personalized financial advice.
Clients can also connect outside financial accounts through Plaid, including 401(k)s, IRAs, mortgages, and loans.
M1 Advisor is non-discretionary, meaning it can provide recommendations but cannot take action without the client’s decision.
The system can retain a client’s goals, constraints, and previous decisions across conversations.
Users can review, edit, delete, or disable that memory.
M1 said personal and financial information used by the service is not used to train AI models, including third-party models.
M1 Advisor is available through the M1 mobile app and website.
Enrollment is optional, and the service is free for M1 clients through December 31, 2027.
M1 has approximately $14 billion in client assets on its platform and more than 400,000 clients as of September 2026.
KEY QUOTES:
“Financial advice has been priced like a luxury good for people who already had money and its supply was capped by the number of humans doing the work. Human advisors provide immense value, but there are far more people who need financial advice than human advisors who have hours to serve. AI removes that cap.”
“M1 Advisor is an AI financial advisor that gives people advice built on their actual accounts, under the same fiduciary duty a human advisor owes them.”
Brian Barnes, Founder and CEO of M1
