Officine Maccaferri acquired Iterchimica and Surface Tech, creating a new High-Performance Materials vertical focused on lower-carbon and climate-resilient infrastructure.
Completion of the Iterchimica transaction remains subject to customary regulatory and antitrust approvals.
Iterchimica develops asphalt additives designed to improve durability and increase the use of recycled asphalt.
The company’s technologies can increase asphalt durability by more than 75% and enable recycled asphalt content of up to 100%.
Its Gipave solution has demonstrated approximately 40% lower carbon dioxide emissions compared with conventional methods.
Surface Tech develops aramid fiber reinforcement technologies for pavement applications.
Its products can reduce cracking by approximately 30% to 50%, helping extend pavement life and reduce the materials required for maintenance and replacement.
Maccaferri said the acquisitions create an integrated offering spanning the full pavement system, from subgrade through surface.
The new vertical combines Maccaferri’s geosynthetics and engineering capabilities with Iterchimica’s asphalt chemistry and Surface Tech’s reinforcement technology.
The strategy is designed to help customers improve infrastructure durability while reducing virgin material use and environmental impact.
Iterchimica was founded in 1967 and is headquartered in Bergamo, Italy, with a strong European presence.
Surface Tech was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in San Diego, with a focus on the North American market.
Maccaferri operates across five continents and serves customers in more than 130 countries, providing both businesses with access to a broader international network.
As part of the transactions, the entrepreneurs behind Iterchimica and Surface Tech will reinvest alongside Maccaferri and become shareholders in the group.
They will also continue to play leading roles in their respective businesses.
