MaiaEdge announced it raised $20 million in a Series A round to accelerate the deployment of what it describes as sovereign, federated private networking infrastructure for the AI era. The Burlington, Massachusetts-based company said the round was led by executive management alongside G20 Ventures, with participation from individual investors and employees.
The company is positioning its platform around a growing need for multi-provider private connectivity as distributed AI inference expands, and enterprises push more workloads into cloud and hybrid environments. MaiaEdge argues that no single network operator can meet the throughput, latency, and geographic reach requirements alone, and that operators increasingly need a model that enables them to interconnect with partners while maintaining customer ownership, security, policy control, and data governance.
MaiaEdge said current interconnection models and operating processes are too slow for modern AI and cloud workloads, citing manual provisioning, bilateral negotiations, and bespoke integrations that can extend activation timelines from minutes to months. The company is pitching its approach as a way for operators to extend reach through partners, accelerate service activation, and preserve sovereignty over customers, policies, and SLAs.
The platform combines Path Border Controller hardware with a cloud-based Path Computation Engine orchestration layer. MaiaEdge said this pairing automates private path provisioning and enables virtual network-to-network interconnections in minutes, aiming to make multi-provider service delivery faster and more repeatable at scale. The company said the new funding will support the rollout of this purpose-built carrier infrastructure to help network operators automate provisioning, federate with partners, and monetize private connectivity.
MaiaEdge also cited early customer and industry validation, noting that network operators are deploying the solution globally to expand reach and scale service delivery across partner networks. The company said its solution is available now. MaiaEdge was founded by a team whose prior work includes Acme Packet and 128 Technology.
KEY QUOTES
“The internet connected applications and users, but it left networks negotiating by spreadsheet. That model breaks down in an AI world where inference, data, and policy move across providers in real time. MaiaEdge gives operators a way to federate their networks with intent, speed, and sovereignty.”
Abilash Menon, CEO and Co-Founder, MaiaEdge
“MaiaEdge enables us to scale at a pace that wasn’t possible before. The solution is remarkably simple; we plug it in and start passing traffic in minutes. We’re deploying PBCs globally and telling partners: if you want to peer with us, deploy a PBC. It’s that simple.”
Carlos Arguimbau, Founder & CEO, IENTC Telecom
“Footprint-constrained network owners that offer Ethernet services have been losing revenues to overlay providers over the past decade because they can’t interconnect quickly and easily enough with partners to support the end-to-end service needs of their enterprise customers. They urgently need a ‘virtual’ cross-connect solution that is simple to install and operate so that they can protect their customer relationships and address growing AI-driven enterprise bandwidth demand.”
