Background And Career Journey

When discussing his background and career journey, Turlica shared:

I’m a tech entrepreneur and angel investor with a background in buy-side finance and innovating in SaaS and AI. My entrepreneurial journey started when I built, led, and sold Voo, a consumer startup, an experience that taught me the importance of building products people actually want to use and the discipline required to scale a venture from zero to exit.

That hands-on experience as a founder was complemented by a period as an Entrepreneur in Residence at Deutsche Telekom Capital Partners, where I had the opportunity to observe how enterprises think about innovation and technology adoption across large, complex organizations. It was eye-opening, and it highlighted a gap I couldn’t ignore.

I studied Finance at McGill University and served as the California McGill Alumni President, which kept me connected to a network of talented people and reinforced my belief in the power of networks and community. Throughout my career, my focus has been on solving real problems at the intersection of technology, finance, and operations.

But what really led me to MaintainX was a simple observation: while technology had transformed white-collar work, frontline operations- the people who keep the physical world running – were still working with outdated tools. I saw the opportunity to apply the lessons I’d learned as a founder and my understanding of enterprise dynamics to build something meaningful in operations. The combination of seeing the problem firsthand, understanding how enterprises operate, and recognizing the massive market opportunity made it clear this was where I needed to focus my energy.

The Founding Story

When discussing how MaintainX came together, Turlica explained:

While building a mobile enterprise communication tool, my co-founder Hugo Dozois-Caouette and I were dismayed to learn about the outdated tools used by frontline professionals. Clipboards, paper, and radios still dominate a world where smartphones are ubiquitous. While 80% of the global workforce is not sitting at a desk, only 1% of enterprise software spending is directed toward their needs.

We discovered that existing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) were relics of a bygone era, clunky, expensive, and inaccessible on the go for frontline professionals. These fragmented systems forced separate workflows for maintenance, safety, and operations. It was clear these tools were failing the very people they were meant to serve, with critical data trapped on clipboards and lost to inefficiency.

We knew that a mobile-first, user-friendly solution was needed to bring frontline operations into the modern era. We built a prototype and it rapidly took off. By providing frontline teams with a consumer-grade user experience, we drove organic adoption. For the first time, organizations could achieve real-time visibility into their operations across workers, assets, and facilities.

That early traction convinced us to transition to MaintainX full-time and recruit additional co-founders: Mathieu Marengere as a lead software engineer and Nick Haase for go-to-market strategy.

Our AI acts like an expert in every technician’s pocket, providing step-by-step guidance and answers in real-time, no more “not knowing what to do next.” We also connect equipment and sensor data so teams can predict problems before they become emergencies.

We started with a simple insight: frontline technicians needed a consumer-grade user experience, not a clunky legacy system. Our initial prototype proved that adoption and engagement could be dramatically improved with an intuitive mobile-first interface.

From there, we’ve layered in increasingly sophisticated capabilities. We began with work order management and scheduling, then evolved to capture equipment asset histories and failure patterns. Once we had structured, high-quality data, AI became possible. Today, our platform generates predictive maintenance recommendations, auto-populates work orders with equipment-specific procedures, and helps teams forecast downtime and optimize labor allocation.

The evolution has been continuous, informed by customer feedback and grounded in a single principle: AI is only valuable if it’s usable and trustworthy by the people on the frontline.

We’ve resisted the temptation to oversell AI or deploy it in ways that would erode technician confidence. Instead, we start with narrow, reversible wins, predictive maintenance on specific equipment types, scheduling optimization, work order prioritization, and let those successes compound over time.

In May 2026, Autodesk announced it had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire MaintainX in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $3.6 billion. The acquisition was completed on August 3, 2026.

This acquisition represents validation of MaintainX’s market leadership and strategic importance. Autodesk recognized that operations, where assets spend the majority of their lifecycle, is critical to the convergence of design, make, and operate workflows.

By joining Autodesk Operations Solutions (AOS), MaintainX gains access to a global platform, complementary technologies like Tandem and FlexSim, and the resources to accelerate our mission of transforming how frontline professionals work.

Prior to the acquisition, we achieved strong financial momentum. Our Series D funding round in June 2024 raised $150 million at a $2.5 billion valuation, backed by leading venture capital firms including Bessemer Venture Partners, Bain Capital Ventures, D.E. Shaw Ventures, Amity Ventures, August Capital, Founders Circle Capital, Sozo Ventures, and Fifth Down Capital, as well as angel investors including Rahul Mehta (co-founder of DST Global) and Dave McJannet (CEO of HashiCorp).

When discussing the market opportunity, Turlica explained:

The opportunity is enormous. Consider: 80% of the global workforce is not sitting at a desk, yet only 1% of enterprise software spending is directed toward their needs. Manufacturing alone is a $1.2 trillion industry in the United States, and poor maintenance costs the sector over $50 billion annually.

The global CMMS market is estimated at several billion dollars and growing fast as more facilities realize they can’t compete with outdated systems. But that understates the real opportunity.

We’re not just replacing existing CMMS and EAM software. We’re helping manufacturers reduce downtime, recapture lost productivity, retain institutional knowledge, and position themselves to scale and compete in a reindustrialized economy.

The TAM spans manufacturing, facilities management, energy, utilities, hospitality, and any other asset-intensive industry where frontline teams keep complex equipment running.

  2. Actionable AI: Other systems alert you to issues. MaintainX does something about them. We automatically generate work orders, attach the right steps and parts, assign the right person, and guide them with our AI assistant. This isn’t AI for AI’s sake, it’s AI that solves real problems and earns technician trust.
  3. Proprietary Data Advantage: Every work order, equipment history, and repair outcome in MaintainX creates a proprietary dataset unique to each customer’s operations. Over time, this data becomes a durable competitive moat, insights and predictive models competitors can’t replicate without access to that same granular equipment and operational history.

Additionally, we don’t require a rip-and-replace implementation. MaintainX integrates with existing tech stacks and delivers immediate value, so customers experience wins quickly without massive IT projects or organizational disruption.

Future Goals And Vision

When discussing MaintainX’s future goals and vision, Turlica concluded:

Our vision is straightforward: transform how frontline professionals use enterprise software and, in doing so, help manufacturers and industrial companies compete and win in a reindustrialized economy.

As part of Autodesk, we’re now in a position to do something even more powerful: connect the teams who design and build assets with the teams who operate and maintain them every day.

This convergence of design, make, and operate, enabled by MaintainX’s operational data flowing into the broader Autodesk platform, creates unprecedented opportunities for customers to optimize across the full asset lifecycle.

In the near term, our focus is on continuing to expand our AI capabilities in pragmatic, measurable ways that deliver real ROI. We’ll deepen our predictive maintenance algorithms, expand our AI-guided insights, and help customers move further up the ladder from reactive to preventive to predictive maintenance.

Longer term, we see MaintainX evolving into the enterprise intelligence platform for industrial operations, the connective tissue that brings together equipment data, technician insights, production schedules, and decision-making in a unified system.

Maintenance won’t be a cost center hidden in the back office; it will be recognized as enterprise infrastructure that drives competitive advantage.
