Mariner announced it has acquired Cowell Insurance Services (CIS), an Overland Park, Kansas-based property and casualty insurance provider, expanding its service portfolio with risk advisory capabilities for both businesses and individuals.
The acquisition brings CIS’s commercial and personal P&C expertise into Mariner’s “One Mariner” ecosystem, strengthening the firm’s ability to deliver integrated financial advisory solutions that combine investment management, planning, and insurance.
Founded in 2009 by Lance Cowell, CIS has an 18-person team with experience spanning commercial and personal property and casualty coverage, underwriting strategy, claims advocacy, and risk management. The firm provides services including commercial insurance program design, excess and surplus placement, risk control and claims advocacy, along with personal lines products such as home, auto, umbrella, liability, and specialty coverage.
Mariner said the addition enhances its ability to coordinate insurance planning with broader financial strategies, including succession planning, generational wealth transfer, and comprehensive financial planning for both business owners and individual clients.
Following the acquisition, CIS will operate under the Mariner brand while continuing to serve clients with its existing team. The integration allows the firm to leverage Mariner’s national platform, resources, and multidisciplinary advisory model to deliver a more coordinated client experience.
