Mariner, an Overland Park, Kansas-based financial services firm with more than $600 billion in assets under advisement and management, announced it has acquired Cowell Insurance Services (CIS), a property and casualty insurance provider also based in Overland Park.

The acquisition adds business and individual risk advisory solutions to Mariner’s offerings, expanding what the firm describes as its “One Mariner” ecosystem and strengthening its ability to provide integrated financial and insurance services.

Founded in 2009 by Lance Cowell, CIS brings an 18-person team with experience in commercial and personal property and casualty coverage, underwriting strategy, claims advocacy and risk management. The firm’s capabilities include commercial insurance program design, excess and surplus placement, risk control and claims advocacy, along with personal lines coverage such as home, auto, umbrella, liability and specialty risks.

Mariner said the addition deepens coordination between insurance planning and broader advisory strategies such as succession planning, generational wealth transfer and comprehensive financial planning. The company also noted growing client demand for advisory relationships that integrate risk management, liquidity and long-term planning.

CIS will operate under the Mariner brand following completion of the transaction on March 4, 2026, while continuing to serve clients with its existing team and leveraging Mariner’s national platform and resources. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
