IBM recently announced it has named Martin Schroeter as the CEO of the company’s new infrastructure business unit. IBM is calling its proposed spinoff of the infrastructure business unit NewCo for now. IBM had proposed the spinoff in October.

As of January 15, Schroeter is going to be responsible for NewCo. NewCo is going to oversee data centers and cloud infrastructure for customers. Previously, Schroeter worked as senior VP of Global Markets and acted as CFO between 2014 and 2017.

“Martin has the strategic vision and business judgment to realize NewCo’s enormous potential as the global leader in managed infrastructure services,” said IBM CEO Arvind Krishna. “He is an inspiring, results-driven executive and the right CEO to lead NewCo through the spin-off process and beyond.”

The splitting of the company is expected to happen by the end of 2021.
