Mate Security has raised $35 million in Series A funding to expand its open, agentic platform for security operations amid faster, increasingly automated cyberattacks. The round was led by Canaan Partners, with participation from Insight Partners, Team8 and M12, Microsoft’s Venture Fund. All of Mate’s original investors also participated.
The financing comes eight months after Mate emerged from stealth with an oversubscribed $15.5 million seed round and brings the company’s total funding to more than $50 million.
Mate plans to use the capital to meet growing enterprise demand, expand into additional markets and product categories, and continue developing what it describes as an open foundation for AI-powered security operations.
The company reported growth of more than 500% since the third quarter of 2025 and said its platform is being adopted by a growing number of Fortune 500 organizations.
Mate was founded by veterans of Wiz and Microsoft to address a security operations architecture that the company believes was not designed for the speed and complexity of AI-driven attacks.
Security operations centers typically collect alerts from numerous cybersecurity products and assign analysts to investigate whether each event represents a genuine threat. Large organizations may receive such a high volume of alerts that teams struggle to evaluate every incident quickly and consistently.
AI tools can help process this information, but Mate argues that many existing systems do not possess enough knowledge about the individual organization to produce reliable conclusions.
A suspicious action may have different meanings depending on the employee involved, the sensitivity of the affected information, current business activity, approved testing schedules and the organization’s normal operating patterns.
Mate is designed to provide AI agents with that broader context before they investigate, classify or respond to an incident.
At the center of the platform is a patent-pending context layer that creates what Mate calls a Security Context Graph. The system collects, resolves, cleans and maintains information about the customer’s technology environment and business operations.
A context graph represents the relationships among users, devices, applications, data, security policies, organizational changes and previous investigations. By connecting those elements, the platform can give AI agents a clearer understanding of why an event may or may not be suspicious.
For example, repeated unusual login attempts could initially appear to indicate an account takeover. Mate may determine that the activity occurred during a planned penetration test and classify the event as a likely non-threat.
In another case, the system could detect an employee downloading multiple sensitive files. Mate could examine personnel changes, document classifications, the employee’s role and other organizational information before determining whether the activity represents legitimate work or a possible insider threat.
The company said this contextual understanding allows its agents to make faster and more precise assessments than systems operating only on individual alerts.
Mate’s agents can detect, investigate, respond to and proactively hunt for threats. An orchestrator agent manages the governed context and coordinates how specialized agents access information and perform their assigned tasks.
The platform can support Mate’s own agents, subagents provided by other cybersecurity vendors and agents developed by customers.
This open architecture is intended to help organizations adopt new AI models and security products without fragmenting the information, permissions and controls used across their security operations.
Mate queries evidence directly from the customer’s technology systems rather than requiring all information to be copied into one repository. Each agent can use the same governed context and trust controls when analyzing that evidence.
The company has also developed mechanisms intended to support permission management, quality, consistency, auditability and autonomous response.
Mate’s agents operate according to what the company calls least-agency principles. Under this approach, each agent receives only the permissions and contextual information necessary to perform its assigned task.
The concept is similar to the cybersecurity principle of least privilege, which limits a user or system to the minimum access required. Applying this structure to AI agents can reduce the potential impact of mistakes, compromised models or unintended actions.
Mate said its agents also use persistent memory that becomes more useful with each investigation. Information learned from previous cases can help the system recognize recurring patterns, understand organizational behavior and improve future assessments.
The agents communicate through structured agent-to-agent protocols rather than relying only on loosely formatted conversational exchanges. This is intended to make coordination more predictable when several agents are working together on an investigation.
Mate describes the resulting system as an organizational brain that represents the accumulated knowledge of an experienced cybersecurity team.
The company is not seeking to replace human security analysts entirely. Instead, its platform is designed to help teams investigate incidents faster, reduce repetitive work and apply institutional knowledge more consistently.
Autonomous remediation and response capabilities are earned over time based on the quality and reliability of the system’s decisions. Organizations can begin with agents providing analysis and recommendations before granting them permission to perform approved actions.
These actions could eventually include disabling an account, isolating a device, blocking suspicious network activity or initiating another response defined by the customer.
Mate believes this gradual approach can help enterprises build confidence in AI-driven security while retaining governance and auditability.
CEO and co-founder Asaf Wiener said Mate invested heavily in context and trust because both are necessary for organizations to depend on AI in high-stakes security environments.
The company has assembled a team that combines AI researchers and product leaders with cybersecurity professionals who have managed investigations at large organizations.
Team members have held positions at companies including Meta and Microsoft and include alumni of Cornell University, the Weizmann Institute of Science, the Technion and Israel Defense Forces Unit 8200.
Mate’s backers believe the company is benefiting from a broader change in the cybersecurity market as attackers and defenders both adopt more capable AI systems.
Canaan General Partner Joydeep Bhattacharyya said Mate’s shared context layer differentiates the platform by giving agents a deeper understanding of how each customer operates.
Insight Partners Managing Director Teddie Wardi said Mate combines advanced AI capabilities with the operational trust required to rebuild security operations around AI.
Team8 Capital Partner Ori Barzilay pointed to Mate’s customer growth, product development and recruiting as evidence that the company is progressing faster than typical businesses at a similar stage.
M12 Managing Partner Todd Graham said enterprises increasingly want access to newer AI models without becoming dependent on a single model provider or technology vendor.
Mate plans to continue developing an open platform that gives customers that flexibility while maintaining consistent context, permissions and security controls.
The company will showcase its technology at Black Hat USA from August 3 through August 6, 2026, in Las Vegas.
