Mayer Brown has added A. Joseph Jay III as co-chair of its Global Investigations & White Collar Defense practice, expanding the firm’s capabilities in government investigations, regulatory enforcement, compliance, and white-collar matters.
Jay joins Mayer Brown from Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, where he led the firm’s governmental practice. He will be resident in Mayer Brown’s Washington, D.C. and New York offices.
Jay advises companies, boards of directors, audit committees, and executives on high-stakes government and internal investigations, white-collar defense, regulatory enforcement matters, congressional inquiries, and compliance issues.
His practice includes representing clients before major federal enforcement agencies in complex domestic and cross-border matters. His experience includes allegations of corporate misconduct, fraud, corruption, cybercrime, and other regulatory issues, as well as advising clients on the legal, business, and reputational risks of sensitive investigations.
The appointment represents another expansion of Mayer Brown’s white collar practice following the recent addition of partner BJ Stieglitz. The firm is building a team that combines former government officials with experienced private-sector and trial lawyers.
Jay said Mayer Brown’s combination of government and private-sector experience, collaborative culture, and emphasis on white collar growth were important factors in his decision to join.
Mayer Brown is positioning its Global Investigations & White Collar Defense practice as a strategic priority as companies encounter increasingly complex enforcement, compliance, investigation, and regulatory challenges. The firm expects Jay’s addition to strengthen its ability to advise clients through investigations, enforcement actions, congressional matters, and crisis situations.
