McDermott Adds David Jamieson To Expand London Tax Disputes Practice

McDermott Will & Schulte has appointed David Jamieson as a partner in its London Tax Practice Group, expanding the firm’s capabilities in complex value-added tax (VAT) and indirect tax disputes. Jamieson joins from Baker McKenzie, bringing experience representing multinational corporations, financial institutions, and other global businesses in investigations, audits, litigation, and tax controversy matters.

The appointment strengthens McDermott’s London tax disputes capabilities and its broader European, Middle Eastern, and African tax offering.

Jamieson’s practice focuses on complex VAT and indirect tax matters involving HM Revenue & Customs and other tax authorities.

He advises businesses on disputes involving the interpretation and application of indirect tax rules, including matters arising from commercial transactions, international operations, and supply chain arrangements.

His clients span the financial services, pharmaceutical, technology, and e-commerce sectors, where VAT and other indirect tax requirements can become particularly complex.

A qualified Solicitor Advocate, Jamieson regularly represents clients in tribunal proceedings and appeals.

His experience includes advising clients throughout tax investigations and regulatory disputes, from initial assessments and strategic planning through formal litigation.

He also provides advice on the indirect tax implications of business operations, supply chains, and international transactions.

His appointment is the latest development in McDermott’s efforts to strengthen its tax disputes practice in London.

The firm previously expanded its UK tax team by appointing Alex Jupp as partner and UK Head of Tax and Elizabeth Spencer as counsel in 2025.

Jamieson will work alongside those lawyers and McDermott’s broader international tax team, which advises clients on tax planning, transactions, disputes, and other complex matters.

The expansion is intended to strengthen the firm’s ability to represent multinational clients facing significant indirect tax disputes across different jurisdictions.

It also adds VAT litigation experience to McDermott’s established tax controversy capabilities in the United States and international markets.

McDermott has continued investing in its London office, emphasizing the recruitment of lawyers whose practices complement its existing transactional, regulatory, and disputes capabilities.

Jamieson’s arrival provides additional experience for clients navigating complex tax investigations and litigation while expanding the firm’s ability to advise on the commercial implications of indirect taxation.
