McDermott Will & Schulte Adds Cross-Border Capital Markets Partner Sina Hekmat In New York

McDermott Will & Schulte has added Sina Hekmat as a partner in its Capital Markets group in New York, expanding the firm’s cross-border capabilities across U.S. and European capital markets.

Hekmat joins the firm from Hogan Lovells and brings a practice focused on transactions spanning the U.S. and European markets, an area McDermott said is becoming increasingly important as issuers and underwriters seek capital across multiple jurisdictions.

His practice covers private equity, debt and equity capital markets, structured finance and M&A, complementing McDermott’s broader finance and private capital platform.

The appointment also continues McDermott’s expansion in New York following its 2025 combination with Schulte Roth & Zabel, which significantly increased the firm’s presence in the city.

McDermott said Hekmat will provide capital markets clients with cross-border expertise spanning private equity, M&A, financing, tax and regulatory matters.

Hekmat brings more than 30 years of experience advising issuers, underwriters and investors.

His transactional work includes sovereign, investment-grade and high-yield debt offerings, equity offerings, asset-backed securities and private placements, with particular experience involving the German market.

He is ranked by Chambers Global for Capital Markets and has also been recommended by The Legal 500 US for work involving debt, equity and global offerings.

The addition strengthens McDermott’s ability to advise clients raising capital on both sides of the Atlantic as companies increasingly pursue financing and strategic transactions across multiple markets.

The firm’s broader transaction platform spans capital markets, structured finance, private equity and M&A, allowing Hekmat to integrate his cross-border practice with teams working across related transactional disciplines.

McDermott Will & Schulte operates from more than 20 offices globally and has more than 1,700 lawyers.

KEY QUOTES:

“Our clients are raising capital across borders, and they want one team that moves with them. Sina knows how deals get done across both US and Europe, and he’s a great fit for how we work: collaborative, ambitious, and all-in for our clients.”

Ira Coleman, Chair of McDermott Will & Schulte

“Sina strengthens our ability to serve clients fluently on both sides of the Atlantic – combining deep knowledge of the German and broader European markets with sophisticated US securities law experience to guide complex cross-border transactions. That reach, paired with the depth of our platform, is exactly what issuers and underwriters are looking for right now.”

Harris Siskind, Global Head of the Transactions Practice Group at McDermott Will & Schulte

“McDermott’s trajectory in private capital is hard to ignore, and the chance to plug a genuinely multijurisdictional practice into it was compelling. Clients are looking beyond any single market, and I’m looking forward to pairing my European and US work with the firm’s strength across capital markets, structured finance, and M&A.”
