MCF Energy is a public company that was formed last year by leading energy executives to strengthen Europe’s energy security through responsible exploration and development of natural gas resources within the region. To learn more about the company, Pulse 2.0 interviewed MCF Energy CEO James Hill.
James Hill’s Background
Hill has been working in the energy industry for more than 45 years and has extensive training in both geological and geophysical aspects, especially in the area of remote sensing.
“My career has been focused on exploration and production projects for major and minor oil companies. Currently, I am the President and CEO of MCF Energy, a gas and oil exploration and production company,” said Hill. “I have led many exploration projects across Europe and North America and hold over four decades of combined professional and technical experience. I’ve led many successful projects, including a massive exploration campaign across six countries.”
Hill is a geologist by trade. He earned a Master’s of Science in Geology from California State University. Plus, Hill holds a P.Geo designation and is a Chartered Member of the London Geological Society.
“To date, I’ve been involved with the growth of several companies and helped develop strong go-to-market strategies,” Hill added. “I have a strong track record in European exploration and led the growth of the continent’s largest heavy oil field by 40x.
Previously, Hill served as the President of Professional Affairs for the American Association’s Division of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG). He formally joined MCF Energy as President and CEO in December 2022.
Hill is working to drive change through MCF Energy and is dedicated to strengthening Europe’s energy security in light of the Russia-Ukraine War. Before MCF, Hill was VP of Exploration for both BNK Petroleum and Bankers Petroleum.

The company has secured interests in two significant natural gas exploration projects in Austria and Germany and is evaluating additional frontiers.

What have been some of MCF Energy’s most significant milestones?
“We are pleased to be making significant progress towards drilling our high-impact natural gas projects in Germany and Austria later this year,” Hill revealed. “These projects have the potential to strengthen Europe’s energy security and support our transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources. The recent 100% acquisition of Genexco Gmbh has provided MCF Energy with a valuable portfolio of assets in Germany’s Natural gas sector. For Austria, the drilling is scheduled to commence in September 2023 at the Welchau prospect and is expected to last between 6 and 8 weeks. The prospect is fully prepared for drilling operations from a geological and engineering perspective.”
