McGuireWoods announced that Brian D. Bewley has joined the firm as a partner in its Washington, D.C. office. Bewley is an accomplished regulatory and transactional attorney focused on healthcare and life sciences matters.
Bewley brings more than two decades of experience advising healthcare and life sciences companies, private equity sponsors, and portfolio companies on regulatory compliance, government investigations, and transactions.
His clients have included Fortune 100 corporations, global pharmaceutical and orthopedics companies, hospitals and health systems, medical equipment suppliers, digital health and digital therapeutics companies, long-term care providers, and specialty pharmacies. He joins McGuireWoods from Reed Smith.
Bewley advises private equity sponsors through the full life cycle of healthcare and life sciences investments, including platform formation, regulatory due diligence, add-on acquisitions, operational compliance, and exits. He is known for providing practical advice and risk mitigation strategies to help sponsors and portfolio companies support sustained growth.
He also has significant experience defending healthcare and life sciences organizations in False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, and government investigation matters. His track record includes securing multiple declinations and other favorable resolutions for clients.
Earlier in his career, Bewley served as senior counsel at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General. He joined HHS in 2005 and later served as senior counsel and team leader for the Office of Counsel to the Inspector General, leading enforcement activities in the Boston, Miami, Dallas, and San Francisco regions.
Bewley was also appointed as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney during his time at HHS-OIG. Before that, he was selected for the U.S. Department of Justice Attorney General’s Honors Program.
McGuireWoods said Bewley’s arrival continues the expansion of its healthcare and life sciences capabilities. Chicago partner Gregory Fosheim joined the firm in March 2026, and Amy Cassalia joined McGuireWoods in Raleigh, North Carolina, in November 2025.
