Medbridge, a digital health platform focused on clinician education, care delivery and patient engagement, has launched a new Pediatric Clinical Skills curriculum designed to help home health, hospice and private duty organizations train nurses caring for children with medically complex needs.
The new program combines specialized pediatric education, competency validation and point-of-care clinical support in a single platform. Medbridge said the curriculum is intended to accelerate nurse onboarding, improve consistency in skills assessment and help clinicians build confidence before providing care in patients’ homes.
The launch addresses a growing need as more children with serious and complex medical conditions receive ongoing care outside hospital settings.
More than 1 million children in the U.S. live with medical complexity, according to Medbridge, and an increasing number are being cared for at home. These patients can require highly specialized support involving ventilators, feeding tubes, seizure management and other clinical needs.
Traditional nursing education does not always provide extensive preparation for that type of care. Nursing programs commonly cover pediatric fundamentals such as developmental milestones and childhood illnesses, but Medbridge said many of the technical skills needed to care for medically complex children are typically learned through specialty certification or on-the-job training.
The Pediatric Clinical Skills curriculum is designed to help close that gap.
The program includes more than 50 expert-reviewed, ANCC-accredited video-based clinical skills covering areas such as tracheostomy care, G-tube care, seizure management and pediatric hospice.
Medbridge combines those educational materials with point-of-care resources specifically designed around pediatric home care workflows and digital competency tools that organizations can use to evaluate whether nurses are prepared for field assignments.
The goal is to create a more standardized path from onboarding to independent patient care while giving clinicians resources they can reference while working in the home.
The curriculum also connects to Medbridge’s broader library of accredited continuing education and specialty learning resources, allowing organizations to continue supporting clinicians after initial onboarding and competency validation.
That combination could be particularly valuable for home health and private duty organizations, where nurses often work independently in patient homes and may not have the same immediate access to specialists or colleagues available in hospital environments.
