Membrane Technology & Research (MTR), a provider of membrane-based gas and vapor separation technologies, announced that it has secured $27 million in equity financing to support the global expansion of its solutions across carbon capture and industrial applications.
The investment was led by Climate Investment, with participation from Hartree Partners. The funding is expected to accelerate deployment of MTR’s commercially proven membrane technologies, which are used in industrial separations and emissions reduction efforts.
Alongside the financing, the company appointed John Gatlin as Chief Executive Officer. Gatlin brings more than 25 years of experience in the energy sector, including previous leadership roles as Chief Operating Officer at Flowco Holdings and President of Estis Compression. He will oversee MTR’s next phase of growth and commercialization.
MTR also named Brett Andrews as Chief Commercial Officer, where he will lead global sales, marketing, and customer engagement initiatives to expand the company’s market reach.
The company has developed a scalable membrane platform that supports a range of applications, including carbon capture, BTX aromatics recovery, and acid gas enrichment for industrial processes. Its Polaris membrane technology has been validated over more than 15 years in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy and is deployed in large-scale systems, including a major installation at the Dry Fork Station coal power plant in Wyoming.
With over 40 years of innovation and more than 450 systems deployed worldwide, MTR operates across two main divisions: industrial separations and carbon capture. Its technologies aim to improve efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and lower emissions across industries such as petrochemicals, natural gas, and refining.
Climate Investment, an investor focused on industrial decarbonization, and Hartree Partners, a global commodities firm, are backing the company as demand grows for scalable and cost-effective emissions reduction technologies.
