Mermaid Chart: $7.5 Million Raised For Reinventing Visual Collaboration For Enterprises

By Amit Chowdhry • Mar 21, 2024

Mermaid Chart, a company offering text-based diagramming and workflow management tools, announced it has raised $7.5 million in seed funding. This funding milestone comes after the company unveiled its first line of enterprise products, designed to help professionals across industries better communicate, collaborate, and solve business problems through visuals and diagrams.

Knut Sveidqvist, the creator of the Mermaid open-source project, founded Mermaid Chart. The Mermaid project is a JavaScript-based charting and diagramming tool that won an award with over 8 million users in 2023, with nearly 65,000 GitHub stars. Mermaid Chart has been developed on top of Mermaid’s core components, offering additional features and tools to bring value to its enterprise customers.

Mermaid Chart users can create diagrams such as flowcharts, state diagrams, and mind maps faster than traditional GUI tools and collaborate on them with ease.
Mermaid Chart recently launched a new Visual Editor for flowcharts and an AI-powered diagram generator. This new suite of enterprise-grade products empowers businesses to easily create, adjust, and manage workflows from even the most complex diagrams. By utilizing the power of automation and AI, these products facilitate seamless visual collaboration among teams, enabling them to work together efficiently, no matter where they are located.

The Visual Editor represents a major leap forward where design customization has always been a limiting factor for adoption. And Mermaid AI opens Mermaid’s text-based approach to the world outside of software engineers and enables any user to render large complex visuals from plain text prompts without technical expertise. Combining these features and a full suite of collaboration tools positions Mermaid Chart to drive results for enterprise customers across all industries and sectors.

Mermaid Chart is set to significantly expand its software capabilities. The company plans to introduce automated documentation tools tailored for software engineers, advanced AI-driven diagramming features, and comprehensive workflow management solutions. It is also developing a full-service on-premise package designed for high-security organizations. This offering addresses the growing need for robust data security in software tools.
