Meta Committing Over $600 Billion For Building US AI Data Centers And Community Investment

By Amit Chowdhry ● Nov 8, 2025

Meta announced that it will invest more than $600 billion in the United States by 2028 to develop advanced AI data centers and expand its workforce as part of a broader initiative to accelerate the next generation of AI technologies. The company stated that building data centers in the US is central to supporting economic growth, technological leadership, and innovation, and the impact of these investments is already visible across multiple regions.

Meta reported that its data center developments have supported over 30,000 skilled trade jobs and 5,000 operational jobs since 2010. The company collaborates with US-based general contractors and manufacturers, generating more than $20 billion in business for subcontractors nationwide. These activities support a range of trades, including steelwork, electrical work, pipefitting, and fiber installation, as Meta focuses on constructing AI-optimized facilities capable of powering large-scale model training and deployment.

The company also emphasized its approach to building responsibly. Meta works directly with utilities to plan and pay for energy needs related to its data center operations, enabling hundreds of millions of dollars in grid infrastructure upgrades and adding 15 gigawatts of new energy to US power grids to date. Meta aims to minimize water use at its facilities through efficient design and has ongoing programs to restore water to local watersheds near its data centers. The company announced that it plans to achieve water positivity by 2030.

Meta also highlighted its commitment to supporting communities that host its infrastructure. The company invests in local infrastructure improvements, sources labor and materials locally when possible, and funds education initiatives focused on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Meta has contributed millions to household utility assistance programs and has provided $58 million in Data Center Community Action Grants to schools, nonprofit groups, and community organizations. These grants have been used to expand STEM learning opportunities, support workforce training for veterans, and fund community services, including food programs for seniors.

Meta emphasized that as AI continues to advance, demand for data center infrastructure will grow. The company plans to continue scaling its data center footprint while maintaining its focus on community support, responsible resource use, and contributions to local economic development.
