Threads, Meta’s text-based social platform, announced that it has surpassed 500 million monthly active users, marking a major milestone as the company continues to expand community-driven conversations and engagement tools.
The company said the growth has been fueled by communities formed around shared interests ranging from books and sports to parenting and music.
Alongside the milestone, Threads announced that its Communities feature is officially graduating from beta. New additions include a Communities Hub that enables users to more easily discover and switch between communities, as well as Community Icons that provide distinct visual identities for groups.
The platform is also introducing Community Progress, which shows users when topics are close to becoming communities, and expanding Community Champions status to additional members. Threads is also localizing communities, beginning with native-language tags in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.
In the coming weeks, Threads plans to expand Live Chats to more communities and add co-hosting capabilities and the ability to quote moments directly to users’ feeds.
Threads also announced the rollout of “Your Algo,” a new feature that gives users private control over the conversations appearing in their feeds. Users can indicate whether they want to see more or less of specific topics for one, three, or seven days. The feature complements Threads’ existing “Dear Algo” tool and is launching in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.
