By Amit Chowdhry • May 28, 2026

John Slump, the co-founder and former president and CEO of Atraverse Medical, announced the launch of Metis MedTech, a new investment and strategic advisory platform focused on helping medical device founders build, fund, and scale their companies.

The launch follows the completion of Johnson & Johnson’s acquisition of Atraverse Medical on May 15, 2026, strengthening the company’s J&J MedTech cardiac electrophysiology portfolio.

Based in Chicago, Metis MedTech is designed to provide founder-friendly capital alongside operational and strategic support for medtech startups advancing through critical growth stages. The platform combines investment capital with hands-on expertise in financing, regulatory strategy, commercialization, and company building.

Slump has built a track record across four medical device exits representing more than $1.25 billion in aggregate transaction value. In addition to Atraverse Medical, those exits include Farapulse, which was acquired by Boston Scientific in 2021, Surgical Innovation Associates, which was acquired by Integra LifeSciences in 2022, and Attune Medical, which was acquired by Haemonetics in 2024.

Metis MedTech has already been involved with companies including Field Medical, Madison Scientific, and StimCardio Medical, where Slump has led or co-led financing rounds and serves in board or advisory roles.

KEY QUOTES:

“Founders know their markets better than anyone, and experienced early-stage investors respect that.
