Microsoft is reportedly considering major pay raises across its workforce in order to stay competitive with other tech companies and retain current employees. Insider’s sources said that Microsoft may announce the change as soon as this Monday.
Insider viewed an internal company poll from Microsoft this year, which cited 66% of employees answering favorably about whether they are getting a “good deal” at the company. This is about 7% lower compared to last year, but the employee survey was changed around this year so the results were expected to be different.
One of the largest companies that Microsoft is competing with for talent is Amazon. And Amazon has been making aggressive moves to hire and retain talent.
For example, Amazon more than doubled the maximum base salary to $350,000. And some engineers at Amazon also saw pay increases as high as 90%. Plus Amazon has been offering record stock awards to employees as well.
A couple of months ago, the employees at Microsoft completed the internal survey – which is called “Employee Signals.” This survey replaces the “MS Poll” annual survey.
One of the questions was about whether leaders at the company were improving the culture and it received 79% favorable responses. And a question about confidence in leaders had received 78% in favorable responses.
