MicroVision announced it has agreed to acquire certain assets from Luminar Technologies that it believes will accelerate its commercial strategy and broaden its lidar product lineup. The company said the deal includes intellectual property and inventory tied to Luminar’s Iris and Halo lidar sensors, along with key engineering and operations talent and certain commercial contracts and orders.
MicroVision said it was selected as the winning bidder in a competitive auction run by Luminar under Section 363 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The cash purchase price is $33 million and covers specified assets, employees, and contracts associated with Luminar’s lidar business.
The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions, including approval by the bankruptcy court. MicroVision said a court hearing to seek approval is scheduled for January 27, 2026, and that it expects the acquisition to be completed on or shortly after February 2, 2026. The company said it expects to share additional details on its next regularly scheduled earnings call.
MicroVision described itself as a provider of integrated lidar hardware and perception software solutions for mobility, autonomy, and industrial applications, with engineering operations in Washington State, Washington, D.C., and Germany. The company said its offerings span solid-state lidar technologies, including MEMS-based long-range lidar and flash-based short-range lidar, paired with onboard perception software.
