Milbank has appointed Claudia Carvajal Lopez as a partner in its Corporate Finance and Securities Group in New York, expanding the firm’s capital markets capabilities as activity across debt, equity, and structured financing markets increases.
Carvajal Lopez joins from Davis Polk & Wardwell, where she was a member of the Capital Markets practice.
Her practice spans a broad range of securities transactions, including high-yield and investment-grade debt offerings, initial public offerings, follow-on equity transactions, spin-off financings, liability management exercises, structured Rule 144A credit transactions, and preferred equity offerings. Carvajal Lopez advises companies, investment banks, and lenders across capital markets transactions involving multiple industries and financing structures.
Her experience includes both registered and unregistered securities offerings and work for public and private companies operating in aerospace, construction technology, cybersecurity, industrials, and other sectors.
Among her representative transactions is Quantinuum’s $1.7 billion IPO.
She has also advised on Global Payments’ $6.2 billion notes offering and Grupo Aeromexico’s $275 million IPO.
Her addition gives Milbank another senior lawyer with experience working across debt and equity financing products at a time when issuers and capital providers are navigating changing market conditions, refinancing needs, liability management transactions, and new issuance opportunities.
Milbank’s Corporate Finance and Securities Group has been active across a range of capital markets products.
The firm said the group advised on transactions totaling approximately $100 billion during the first half of 2026 alone.
Those mandates included high-yield financing, hybrid capital, preferred equity, investment-grade debt, IPOs, and liability management transactions.
The work has spanned industries including media, technology, telecommunications, retail, digital infrastructure, energy and utilities, and transportation.
Carvajal Lopez’s appointment follows Milbank’s recent expansion of the group through other senior hires.
Adam Brenneman joined the firm last year, bringing experience advising issuers, underwriters, and capital providers on cross-border capital markets transactions, special situations financings, and restructuring matters, particularly involving the United States and Latin America.
Milbank said Carvajal Lopez’s ability to work across a variety of debt and equity products supports the group’s strategy of providing integrated advice to companies and financial institutions undertaking complex capital markets transactions.
Her experience with structured credit and liability management can also intersect with restructuring and special situations work, while her IPO and equity offering background adds capabilities for companies accessing public markets.
Carvajal Lopez earned her J.D. from New York University School of Law, where she served as an Articles Editor of the New York University Law Review.
She received her bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, and is fluent in Spanish.
