Mistlabs launched Ambi, an ambient intelligence platform designed to reason in real time, anticipate user needs, and eventually enable communication between independent AI agents.
The launch follows $26 million in Pre-A funding led by Luminous Ventures and Huaqin Technology.
Mistlabs said the financing will support development of its standalone AI wearable in addition to continued expansion of the Ambi platform.
Ambi is launching out of beta on Apple devices and is currently designed to work across the iPhone, Apple Watch, Mac, and MacBook.
Mistlabs describes Ambi as a system that goes beyond traditional AI summarization and task completion by continuously building contextual understanding of a user throughout the day.
The platform is designed to identify opportunities to act proactively rather than waiting for a direct prompt.
Ambi retains information about users’ preferences, priorities, communication style, and work patterns in memory, allowing its understanding to carry across supported devices.
The company said this persistent context allows Ambi to provide recommendations, identify missing information, flag irregularities, and continue working on projects even when the user is no longer actively focused on them.
One of Ambi’s features, called Routine, allows multiple agents to perform recurring tasks.
For example, during a meeting discussing competitors, Ambi can analyze and fact-check the conversation in real time while simultaneously researching competing products and preparing information for a follow-up proposal.
Mistlabs said Ambi can also continue evaluating a project after a meeting has ended and proactively flag new developments or issues that may require attention.
The company plans to expand the system further through agent-to-agent communication.
Under that model, individual Ambi agents would be able to communicate with one another on behalf of their respective users, subject to permissions granted by those users.
During meetings, the agents could identify overlapping priorities, surface areas of disagreement, and potentially suggest mutually acceptable outcomes as discussions take place.
Mistlabs said this capability is intended to allow AI systems to act not only as assistants but also as collaborators or mediators.
The company plans to introduce agent-to-agent communication in the coming months.
Mistlabs is also developing its own wearable AI hardware designed specifically around Ambi.
The company said the wearable is intended to give Ambi a richer understanding of the user and surrounding context beyond what is available through existing devices.
Ambi is currently designed with privacy considerations that include not storing audio by default.
Mistlabs said its broader strategy is to move beyond AI systems focused primarily on one-off prompts, task management, and summarization toward continuously available contextual intelligence.
The company is headquartered in San Francisco and is led by CEO Peter Mo.
KEY QUOTES:
“Most AI platforms today are built around completing tasks, but Ambi is our first step toward answering a different question: what happens when AI can understand, reason and act in real time? What entirely new use cases have become possible? We’re moving beyond AI that simply waits for a prompt. Ambi introduces real-time reasoning and actions that can happen sometimes before the user even thinks to ask; and in the coming months it will extend to mediating between users and maintaining intelligence across platforms.”
Peter Mo, CEO of Mistlabs
“While we’re starting with the iPhone, Apple Watch, MacBook and Mac, our move into standalone hardware sets the stage for Ambi’s intelligence to extend across entirely new device types in the future.”
Peter Mo, CEO of Mistlabs
