Mitsubishi Electric has agreed to acquire the remaining shares of Polish rail electrical equipment manufacturer MEDCOM through its wholly owned subsidiary Mitsubishi Electric Europe.

The transaction will give Mitsubishi Electric Group full ownership of MEDCOM. Subject to regulatory approvals, the acquisition is expected to close during the first half of Mitsubishi Electric’s fiscal year ending March 2027.

MEDCOM designs, manufactures, sells and maintains electrical equipment used in railcars and electric urban transportation systems.

Its products include auxiliary power supply systems, propulsion control equipment and industrial power electronics, with Europe representing its primary market.

Mitsubishi Electric initially invested in MEDCOM in 2016.

Since then, MEDCOM has incorporated Mitsubishi Electric silicon carbide power devices into railcar electrical equipment designed to provide higher output while reducing equipment size and weight.

Mitsubishi Electric said full ownership will enable closer integration of group resources, faster decision-making and improved operational efficiency.

The company also intends to use MEDCOM as a development and manufacturing base for high-performance power electronics components and solutions.

Beyond transportation, Mitsubishi Electric plans to apply MEDCOM’s technology across a broader range of infrastructure-related businesses while strengthening its European transportation operations.
