Mode Acquires Trimbox And QR Code Reader To Expand AI Data Network

Mode.Inc announced that it has acquired Trimbox, an email inbox management app, and QR Code Reader, a utility app, expanding its portfolio of consumer apps and strengthening its AI data network.

The acquisitions add low eight figures in annual revenue and create new opportunities for Mode to scale EarnOS, its proprietary monetization and rewards engine, across a portfolio that now reaches more than 100 million monthly active users.

Trimbox has more than 50,000 paying subscribers and has helped users clean more than 1.7 billion emails. The app helps users manage their inboxes through one-click unsubscribing, bulk email deletion, spam blocking, and an AI-powered assistant. Since acquiring Trimbox, Mode said it has increased the app’s monthly recurring revenue by 43%.

Mode plans to launch a free version of Trimbox integrated with EarnOS in the third quarter of 2026. Through EarnOS, users will be able to opt in to share consented inbox and purchase data in exchange for rewards, creating anonymized and aggregated signals for AI and analytics use cases.

QR Code Reader reaches 1.5 million monthly active users and generates approximately low eight figures in annual revenue. The utility app has a 4.7-star rating from more than 668,000 reviews and has operated as a trusted App Store product for more than a decade.

Mode plans to integrate EarnOS into QR Code Reader, enabling users to earn rewards for engagement. The app processes tens of millions of scans annually, including scans tied to products consumers plan to buy or research. Mode said those interactions can produce real-world purchase-intent signals when users consent to sharing the data.

EarnOS is designed to reward users with income for engagement while creating revenue opportunities across subscriptions, premium upgrades, advertising, and permission-based data. Mode said the system enables a stronger economic model than traditional app ownership, which often depends primarily on ads or subscriptions.

Mode has previously used EarnOS to scale acquired apps. Following its acquisition of AppLock Pro, monthly revenue increased by 194% and monthly EBITDA grew by 384% within nine months. Mode also acquired NGL, a social platform with more than 250 million installs, adding Gen Z reach and international distribution to its portfolio.

Mode said it has facilitated more than $1 billion in earnings, savings, and incentives for users. The company believes consented behavioral data from real users will become increasingly valuable as AI developers, enterprises, financial institutions, and brands seek compliant data that reflects real-world behavior.

Mode said its platform becomes more valuable with each acquisition by adding users, demographics, behavioral signals, and distribution channels to a system built for both consumers and businesses relying on permission-based data.

KEY QUOTES:

“The apps most investors overlook are often the ones worth owning. There are thousands of products with real users and revenue that never reach their potential because they lack the infrastructure to scale further. That’s the gap Mode fills.”

“These two apps are part of our bigger vision to build the infrastructure that connects everyday people who want to earn and save from their smartphones with the AI labs, enterprises, and financial institutions competing for the behavioral data those people generate.”
