Molson Coors Beverage Company has announced the acquisition of Atomic Brands, Inc., the maker of Monaco Cocktails, as part of its strategy to expand its presence beyond traditional beer offerings and deepen its footprint in the fast-growing ready-to-drink cocktail segment.
Founded in 2012, Monaco has emerged as a leading player in the RTD cocktail category, currently ranking among the top five brands in the U.S. and holding approximately 5% market share of RTD singles. The brand is also recognized as the number one independently owned RTD singles cocktail brand across tracked retail channels. Its portfolio includes popular flavors such as Citrus Rush, Watermelon Crush, Lime Crush, and Black Raspberry, with strong traction in convenience stores and distribution across more than 70,000 retail locations nationwide.
The acquisition aligns with Molson Coors’ Horizon 2030 strategy, which focuses on adapting to shifting consumer preferences by building a diversified portfolio that extends beyond beer into adjacent beverage categories. Monaco is expected to complement existing brands such as Coors Banquet and Peroni U.S., while strengthening the company’s Beyond Beer lineup, which includes products like Topo Chico Hard and Fever-Tree U.S.
Molson Coors sees significant growth potential for Monaco through expanded marketing investment and broader retail distribution, particularly leveraging its existing U.S. distributor network, where there is already substantial overlap with Monaco’s footprint. The company believes the brand’s strong consumer following, experiential marketing roots, and positioning around convenience and bold flavors will support further scale.
The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
