Monarq Asset Management: Sam Gaer Named As CIO

By Amit Chowdhry • Jul 23, 2025

Monarq Asset Management, formerly known as MNNC Group, has appointed Sam Gaer as Chief Investment Officer to lead its Directional Investment Strategy. With 25+ years of experience in institutional trading and asset management, Gaer will help guide Monarq’s growth.

The firm is expanding its directional capabilities to capture more risk-adjusted returns, focusing on high-conviction themes and strategic volatility overlays. This approach complements Monarq’s existing success in delta-neutral and market-making strategies.

Gaer previously co-managed BlockTower Capital’s flagship fund and founded Katana Financial. He also served as CIO at FINRA and EVP/CIO at NYMEX. He holds a degree in Corporate Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

KEY QUOTE:

“We’re excited to welcome Sam to the team. His leadership enhances our ability to compound asymmetric returns and anticipate key catalysts in the digital asset space.”
