Monomoy Capital Partners, a New York-based private investment firm focused on middle-market private equity and credit opportunities, announced the closing of its inaugural Monomoy Family Fund I with $589 million in total commitments.
The oversubscribed fund attracted substantial investor demand, exceeding its $500 million external hard cap. Total commitments include $89 million from Monomoy’s general partner and its affiliates, representing approximately 15% of the fund’s capital.
Monomoy completed the fundraising process three months after launching the vehicle, with the fund becoming fully allocated within two weeks. All external commitments came from the firm’s existing limited partner base, including endowments, foundations, pension plans, insurance companies, and family offices.
The new fund will focus on lower-middle-market investments involving businesses with enterprise values of $200 million or less. Its investment opportunities will include family-owned companies, corporate carve-outs, and take-private transactions across industrial, consumer, and services industries.
The strategy builds on Monomoy’s 21-year history of investing in manufacturing, distribution, and service businesses. By establishing a dedicated vehicle for smaller transactions, the firm intends to expand its investment capabilities alongside its flagship Monomoy Capital Partners Fund V.
Together, the two funds will enable Monomoy to pursue businesses generating annual EBITDA ranging from approximately $15 million to more than $250 million, providing access to investment opportunities across a broad segment of the middle market.
A central component of the Family Fund strategy is Monomoy’s in-house operating expertise. The firm’s Operating Team will work alongside investment professionals and portfolio company management teams to identify operational improvements, implement tailored value creation initiatives, and support long-term business growth.
These initiatives will focus on strengthening existing operations and helping portfolio companies improve their performance while preserving the underlying capabilities that make them attractive acquisition targets.
The fund also reflects Monomoy’s emphasis on aligning its interests with institutional investors. The $89 million commitment from the general partner and its affiliates demonstrates a substantial financial investment alongside the fund’s external limited partners.
Monomoy currently manages more than $6 billion in assets across its investment funds. The addition of Family Fund I expands its ability to pursue transactions involving smaller companies while maintaining its established focus on industrial and consumer-oriented businesses throughout North America.
Paul Hastings LLP served as fund counsel for the fundraising.
