Moonshot AI, the Chinese artificial intelligence startup behind the Kimi chatbot platform, raised approximately $2 billion in a new financing round that values the company at more than $20 billion. The funding round was led by Meituan’s venture investment arm.

The latest financing reflects accelerating investor interest in Chinese AI companies competing with major U.S. AI firms, including OpenAI and Anthropic. The round reportedly included participation from China Mobile, CITIC Private Equity Funds, and other institutional investors.

According to reports, Moonshot AI’s annual recurring revenue surpassed $200 million in April, driven by subscriptions to its Kimi chatbot products and enterprise AI model services. The company’s ARR reportedly doubled from approximately $100 million in March.

The financing significantly increases Moonshot AI’s valuation from prior funding rounds. Reports noted the company raised approximately $500 million at a $4.3 billion valuation in late 2025 before completing additional financings earlier in 2026.

Moonshot AI was founded in 2023 by Yang Zhilin, a former Tsinghua University professor who previously worked at Meta and Google. The company focuses on large language models, AI agents, and enterprise AI infrastructure.

The Kimi chatbot platform has become one of China’s highest-profile AI consumer products, while Moonshot AI has increasingly expanded into coding models, agentic AI systems, and enterprise AI services.

The funding comes amid intensifying competition across China’s AI sector, where companies including DeepSeek, MiniMax, and Zhipu AI are also raising significant amounts of capital to scale infrastructure and AI model development.

Reports also indicate Moonshot AI has explored a potential future public listing in Hong Kong as Chinese AI companies accelerate commercialization and capital raising efforts.
