Morehouse College Names Richard Ammons As Interim Vice President For Institutional Advancement

Morehouse College has appointed Richard Ammons as Interim Vice President of Institutional Advancement as the college enters the final stretch of its $500 million Making Men of Consequence comprehensive fundraising campaign.

Ammons returns to Morehouse with more than 40 years of advancement and fundraising leadership experience.

He previously served as Morehouse’s Vice President of Institutional Advancement during the 1980s, when he led fundraising initiatives supporting the college’s endowment, scholarships and broader philanthropic base.

The son of a Morehouse graduate, Ammons returned to the institution in July 2026.

Since his appointment, he has overseen fundraising initiatives, alumni and stakeholder relationships and efforts intended to maintain philanthropic momentum as Morehouse continues its comprehensive campaign.

The Making Men of Consequence campaign has raised more than $376 million toward its $500 million goal.

Campaign priorities include student scholarships, academic programs, campus improvements, athletics and faculty research and recruitment.

Before returning to Morehouse, Ammons held senior advancement positions across several major higher education institutions.

He served as Vice President of Development at Macalester College and Colby College.

At Colby, he managed a staff of 43 and led a $370 million comprehensive campaign.

Ammons was also an associate dean at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and held an advancement leadership position at Johns Hopkins University.

He earned an MBA from Stanford University.

Morehouse is conducting a national search for its next permanent Vice President of Institutional Advancement in partnership with executive search firm Isaacson, Miller.
