Morgan Lewis has added Andres Liivak as a partner in its corporate and business transactions practice in Boston, further expanding the firm’s global life sciences transactional capabilities.
Liivak joins from an international law firm, where he served as global co-leader of the life sciences healthcare team.
He advises life sciences and technology companies on complex transactions involving the development, manufacturing and commercialization of products and technologies, with particular experience across biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, vaccines and medical devices.
Liivak’s practice includes advising clients on strategic alliances, collaboration and license agreements, joint ventures, M&A, investments and other complex commercial arrangements.
His work spans transactions involving product discovery and development, manufacturing and supply, commercialization, intellectual property and regulatory matters.
Liivak represents a broad mix of clients, including established pharmaceutical and technology companies, emerging biotechnology businesses, medical device companies and investors.
His experience includes both domestic and cross-border transactions, giving Morgan Lewis additional capabilities as life sciences companies increasingly rely on partnerships and licensing structures to move products from discovery through commercialization.
The addition is particularly significant in Boston, one of the world’s largest centers for biotechnology, pharmaceutical research, healthcare and life sciences innovation.
Morgan Lewis said Liivak’s experience across the full product lifecycle will complement the firm’s multidisciplinary approach, bringing together corporate, intellectual property, regulatory and other capabilities for companies developing and commercializing new therapies and technologies.
His arrival also continues Morgan Lewis’s broader investment in its global corporate and life sciences practices.
Recent additions include Philip Cheveley, European M&A head, and Gemma Roberts, European private equity head, in London, along with life sciences transactions partner Luciana Griebel.
The firm has also expanded its life sciences intellectual property capabilities with Hiroshi Sheraton and Tim Powell in London.
On the regulatory side, Morgan Lewis has added Jackie Mulryne in London, Alexander Meier in Munich and Bart Jong in Brussels.
The combination of these hires reflects Morgan Lewis’s strategy of expanding capabilities across the different legal disciplines involved in life sciences transactions, from early-stage product development and licensing to manufacturing, commercialization, regulatory matters and strategic acquisitions.
