Morgan Stanley Capital Partners Acquires The Rapid Group To Expand Essential Infrastructure Services Platform

Morgan Stanley Capital Partners has acquired The Rapid Group, a provider of inspection, repair, and maintenance services for rotating equipment and other critical infrastructure across municipal, commercial, and industrial markets.

The transaction gives Morgan Stanley Capital Partners, or MSCP, ownership of a business serving more than 1,800 public- and private-sector customers across the Northeast. The Rapid Group provides repair and rapid-response services designed to keep mechanical and electrical infrastructure operating and restore service when equipment fails.

Headquartered in Paterson, New Jersey, The Rapid Group has more than 50 years of operating history and maintains a presence across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.

The company specializes in services involving pumps, motors, generators, water and wastewater infrastructure, and related maintenance, installation, and repair work. Its customer base spans municipal, industrial, pharmaceutical, transportation, and other sectors where equipment uptime and infrastructure reliability are critical.

MSCP sees additional growth potential for The Rapid Group given the age of water and wastewater infrastructure across the Northeast. The private equity firm plans to support investments in the company’s workforce and technical capabilities while expanding its geographic reach and pursuing both organic growth and acquisitions.

The investment builds on MSCP’s broader experience in industrial and infrastructure services. The firm’s prior investments in the sector include Apex Companies, Resource Innovations, and Olsson.

The Rapid Group’s management team will continue focusing on its existing service model while gaining additional resources to broaden capabilities and serve more customers across its regional footprint.

Morgan Stanley Capital Partners is the middle-market private equity buyout team within Morgan Stanley Investment Management. The platform has been investing for more than three decades and focuses primarily on privately negotiated equity and equity-related investments across business services, consumer, healthcare, education, and industrial markets.

Morgan Stanley Investment Management had approximately $2 trillion in assets under management or supervision as of June 30, 2026.

Harris Williams served as exclusive financial advisor to The Rapid Group, while McDermott Will & Schulte acted as its legal counsel. William Blair served as financial advisor to MSCP, and Latham & Watkins provided legal counsel.
