Morinaga & Co., the parent company of Morinaga America, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire My/Mochi Ice Cream, the largest mochi ice cream brand in the United States. The deal strengthens Morinaga’s position in the rapidly growing frozen snack category and expands its footprint in the U.S. consumer market.

The acquisition combines Morinaga’s global confectionery expertise with My/Mochi’s leadership in mochi ice cream. The Los Angeles-based brand, which originated from Japanese confectionery traditions and debuted in 1993, has become a prominent player in the novelty ice cream segment.

According to SPINS MULO data for the 52-week period ending January 25, 2026, My/Mochi generated about $80 million in sales. The broader U.S. novelty ice cream market has also been expanding, reaching an estimated $8.6 billion in 2025, based on Circana data.

Morinaga said the acquisition aligns with its long-term growth strategy and supports its broader 2030 business goals. The company has already been increasing its U.S. presence, including plans to open a second factory in the country in 2027 to expand production of its HI-CHEW candy brand.

By bringing My/Mochi into its portfolio, Morinaga aims to accelerate innovation and expand its presence in frozen desserts. The company plans to combine its product development capabilities with My/Mochi’s brand recognition to drive growth in the frozen snack category.

Morinaga America currently distributes several confectionery brands in the United States, including HI-CHEW, HI-SOFT, and Chargel. The addition of My/Mochi broadens the company’s product lineup while expanding its presence in frozen treats.

After the transaction closes, My/Mochi will remain headquartered in Los Angeles and will continue to be led by President and CEO Craig Berger.
