Morphotonics, a Netherlands-based developer of nanoimprint lithography technology, has closed a Series B financing round exceeding €40 million to expand manufacturing technology for artificial intelligence glasses, augmented reality waveguides, and advanced photonic components. The financing includes increased commitments from existing investors 3M Ventures, Innovation Industries, and BOM, alongside major new investor Invest-NL. Additional participants include the European Innovation Council Fund, Ernij Next, and the European Investment Bank.
The funding will accelerate the commercialization of Morphotonics’ large-area nanoimprint lithography platforms, which enable manufacturers to reproduce microscopic and nanoscale optical structures across large surfaces with high precision.
The technology addresses a manufacturing challenge facing companies developing AI glasses and augmented reality devices. These products rely on waveguides, transparent optical components that project digital images into a user’s field of vision.
Conventional waveguide manufacturing methods can be expensive, relatively slow, and difficult to scale for consumer electronics production. Morphotonics’ technology is designed to overcome these limitations by enabling high-volume manufacturing of sophisticated optical components.
Its manufacturing process uses molds to press microscopic and nanoscale patterns into liquid resin coatings, which are subsequently hardened using ultraviolet light. The process allows manufacturers to replicate intricate optical structures with the consistency and throughput required for larger-scale commercial production.
Morphotonics has experienced significant commercial growth as device manufacturers increase their investments in AI-enabled hardware. The company reported that revenue tripled in 2025 compared with 2024, while several of its manufacturing platforms were installed at high-volume production facilities worldwide.
The company has also expanded its relationships with device and component manufacturers across China, Taiwan, the United States, and Europe, helping customers develop manufacturing processes for advanced optical products.
A significant portion of the new funding will support the expansion of Morphotonics’ Cypris platform, which is specifically designed for high-volume waveguide manufacturing.
The company plans to increase production capacity, accelerate product development, expand its engineering and commercial teams, strengthen manufacturing and supplier relationships, and develop additional customer support infrastructure.
Morphotonics is also expanding its lab-to-fab partner network, enabling manufacturers to test and develop nanoimprint processes before investing in their own production equipment.
Beyond AI glasses and augmented reality, the company’s technology could support the production of co-packaged optics, advanced displays, sensors, and photonic components used in next-generation computing and data center infrastructure.
Based in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, Morphotonics operates within the Brainport technology cluster, providing access to semiconductor, photonics, and advanced manufacturing expertise.
KEY QUOTES:
“Everyone is talking about AI glasses right now. AI is moving off the screen and into the real world, into glasses, spatial systems, and a new generation of intelligent devices. But these and similar devices will not reach mass adoption unless the optical components inside them can be manufactured at consumer-electronics scale.”
“Our role is to make that possible. By bringing nanoimprint lithography from specialist production into high-volume manufacturing, we’ll ensure the AI glasses and Physical AI future can arrive.”
“We can help reduce one of the key manufacturing barriers facing AI glasses and other advanced optical devices.”
Hugo da Silva, CEO of Morphotonics
“Morphotonics is addressing a clear industrial challenge: how to manufacture increasingly complex optical components at the scale and cost required by consumer markets. The company has made significant progress in a short time, and this investment will support its move from technology development into broader industrial deployment.”
Johan Stins, Senior Investment Manager at Invest-NL
“We believe Morphotonics has developed an innovative manufacturing approach for advanced optical components and are pleased to continue to support the Company’s growth.”
Mark Copman, Senior Vice President, New Growth Ventures at 3M
