Morty: $2.2 Million Raised To Help Find Escape Rooms And Haunted Attractions

Morty – a company that helps people discover the best escape rooms and haunted attractions – recently announced that it has raised over $2.2 million. Morty co-founder and CEO Andy Bauch told Pulse 2.0 that the company is creating the ultimate social copilot for you and your friends by helping you find unique interactive experiences.

The company’s recommendations are powered by communities who know what is best. And the company’s first community – escape room fans – is now the dominant review and tracking app for the escape room industry. Morty drives over $500,000 in escape room bookings every month. So far, users have logged over 400,000 escape rooms and left over 300,000 ratings and reviews.

Morty recently launched their second community: haunted attractions. Morty now has the most accurate database for haunted houses, hayrides, and home haunts such as yard displays. You can find and review 4,000 haunted attractions in the Morty database.

“As AI becomes more convincing, real-world interactions will become even more meaningful. The only way to know you’re having an authentic human experience,” said Bauch in a company blog post. “When getting together, though, we increasingly want something interactive and engaging. We don’t want to just sit in a bar. We want to share an experience captivating enough that we actually forget to check our phone for an hour. IRL experiences must be as magical as our favorite tech products.”

Protagonist led the company’s $2.2 million funding round. And Protagonist was joined by General Catalyst, Animo VC, Marketplace Capital, Wedbush, Unpopular Ventures, and angel investors such as Michael Stoppelman of Yelp. In total, Morty has raised $3.5 million.

In the future, some of the verticals that Morty plans to target include immersive art/theatre, food and beverage (speakeasies, experiential restaurants, tiki bars, etc.), conventions like Comic Con), arcades/barcades/pinball locations, murder mystery events, and experiential museums.
