Motorola Solutions announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire D-Fend Solutions, a leader in counter-drone technology, for $1.5 billion. The acquisition strengthens Motorola Solutions’ position in airspace security as governments, public safety agencies, and enterprises increasingly seek solutions to address unauthorized drone activity.
Founded on advanced non-kinetic radio frequency cyber-takeover technology, D-Fend Solutions enables authorized operators to detect, identify, and safely mitigate rogue drone threats by overriding drone communications and redirecting them without causing collateral damage or disrupting legitimate drone operations. The company’s technology has been deployed thousands of times across more than 30 countries and has generated annual revenue growth of more than 50% over the past three years. D-Fend is expected to generate approximately $185 million in revenue during 2026.
The acquisition comes amid growing regulatory support for counter-drone technologies. The Safer Skies Act, enacted as part of the FY 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, expanded the authority of trained and certified state and local law enforcement agencies to detect, track, and, where permitted, mitigate drone threats that pose public safety risks.
Motorola Solutions said the addition of D-Fend’s technology will complement its existing public safety and security portfolio by providing customers with advanced airspace protection capabilities. The company serves government, public safety, federal, and enterprise customers globally and views counter-drone technology as an increasingly important component of modern security infrastructure.
The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
