Mozilla, the organization behind the popular Firefox browser, announced it launched its inaugural Mozilla Builders Accelerator, a 12-week program designed to support innovative projects that advance AI development and need funding to reach the next level. The selected projects can receive up to $100,000 in funding.
This year’s theme is local AI – which encourages privacy and focuses on deploying AI models and applications directly on personal devices like laptops, smartphones, or edge devices rather than relying on cloud-based services. The other key components of the program include:
1.) A robust curriculum – Participants will engage in a structured 12-week program that includes instructional sessions, guided workshops, and practical assignments designed to foster project development.
2.) Collaboration and Community – The participants can share ideas, forge partnerships, and drive project growth and adoption to create a rich community environment.
3.) Mentorship and Support – Participants will gain mentorship from experts in open source and AI and project development guidance.
4.) Visibility and Recognition – Participants will have a chance to increase project visibility through Mozilla channels and events, culminating in a Demo Day that showcases their achievements.
The Mozilla Builders Accelerator is the next phase of the organization’s work to build a stronger open-source AI ecosystem and improve components across the open-source AI stack through investment, collaboration, and its own open-source projects like Llamafile and Mozilla.ai. And Mozilla also invites AI and ML engineers to apply, and applications are open through August 1, 2024 (you can apply here).
